I caught a bit of this program last night where a guy from the RSPCA approached a nervous dog in a room and tried to stroke it on the head with gloves on and seemed surprised when the dog snapped! Really? Don't they get taught about stuff like this? I had to rewind to double check what I'd seen as I couldn't believe it.

Yes I shouted at the telly as well. I said to my husband that all dog people I know walk around with their pockets full of dog treats, in all clothes they have (I demonstrated by throwing a piece of treat at him from my jeans pocket, which was caught by my oldest Papillon :) ) -and the RSPCA do not even think about carrying treats and offering that FIRST?! Not to mention that most dogs do not like a hand above their eyes from a stranger, let alone a huge gloved one......

Not the rspca again ? can they not get anything right

These program's do highlight how poor an understanding a lot of these inspectors have of dog behaviour.
It was the poor SBT puppy that shocked me, I shan't repeat what I said at the time but it involved two bricks and the mans knackers.
I was also stunned that he was only banned from keeping pets for 7 years !....outrageous.

I saw that too Celli.  I was appalled at how little compassion the judge must have had for that poor, poor puppy.  If I´d been the judge I would have locked that man (man?  no MAN would behave that way) up and thrown away the key.

I too saw the video with the staffy pup and was appalled that it was allowed to go on so long. I had to turn off. If I had seen this in person, I would have sorted that "person" out. How can anyone treat a dog that way?

I also shouted at the presenter in an earlier program when he demonstrated picking up dog poo with a bag but didn't tie it up before he threw it in the bin. Maybe he's not a dog owner?

Agree about the scum who should've been punished far more than he was. Here's hoping HE wasn't able to breed.

I cannot believe what I have just read
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-28191702

a dog they featured and rehomed to be a police dog now pts as being part banned breed. disgraceful

Not only is it disgraceful, but it is also disingenuous.

There's no way you can look at a mixed breed dog and categorially say that it's a banned breed.  Most of us have done those fun photo tests to guess the mixed breeds online - and we all know how very surprising the results can be.

I have many similarities to Dawn French.

Height, Weight, facial similarities, hair,  proportions, sense of humour (temperament) etc.

But it doesn't make me Dawn French, and it certainly doen't make me a comedian!

Unfortunately under the DDA they don't have to. Being 'of the type' - ie it looks a bit like one in a dim light - is enough. :-(
