Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Kennel Club policy

Don't know whether I am going blind or just cannot read. On the KC site Assured Breeders Scheme it states. Follow Kennel Club policy regarding maximum age and number/frequency of litters -  But I cannot find anywhere where it tells you what is the frequency of litters policy, can anyone enlighten me please.

The age/frequency of litters bit is on the breed pages, such as this one for the Alaskan Malamute, where at the bottom it says

"Bitches not to be mated before third season
Bitches not to produce a litter under two years of age
Bitches not to produce more than one litter within a 12-month period"

Also the general rule whereby bitches must not whelp before 12 months or after 8 years, or have more than 4 litters in total.

Brilliant, thank you

Now you see this is when I  do get angry. For Goldens the information states:
Bitches under 18 months not to produce a litter Bitches not to produce more than one litter in a 12-month period -

and yet they have registered a litter from a bitch, from an Assured Breeder, with only 7 months between litters!

3 litters from her in 3 years, April 2012, July 2013 and February 2014!!!

That needs to be pointed out to them.

I agree wholeheartedly but I think they read it as, one in 2102, one in 2013 & one in 2014 or so I believe??

Yes but July to February is only 7 months. So bitch mated 5 months after previous litter!

Yes, I do realise that & like I said I agree 100% that it isnt right & certainly not a thing I would do but how I understand the KC to read it.

I have a feeling they will say that it is only a recommendation, but quite honestly I think it is a 'get out' as that is behaving no better than puppy farmers. If they do agree I cannot see how they managed to register the litter without realising the lack of months.

That would be a requirement as it says not to.
I enquired about something similar and there requirements and recommendations. The KC shouldn't be registering anything in breach of a requirement under the scheme unless this person has quit it before the litter was registered

The KC work on a rolling 12 month period, not 2012 or 2013
- By AlisonGold [fr] Date 01.07.14 16:38 UTC
Well they have sent me the scheme requirements for Goldens and it states litter frequency NOT under a 12 month period so I have furnished them with all the details and I will wait for their answer.

Apparently they will allow you to register 'accidental litters' as long as you don't have them too often!
- By Goldmali Date 01.07.14 17:31 UTC
There should be no excuse for accidental litters these days when Alizin is so easy and safe to use. People. :(
