A friend has a Lhasa pup who today has been clipped to within a inch of her life poor baby - Could someone please advise on a suitable trim that will be easy to maintain - she is groomed religiously and had a good quality coat (but will todays clip ruin her coat?) Owner needs tips on what to ask for at the groomers or better still a recommendation of reputable groomers in the CW8 area. Thanks in advance

The pup may have had a good quality coat, she may have been groomed religiously.   But had she been groomed correctly and thoroughly?

The best way to groom a dog with a Lhasa coat is to lift the coat and groom from underneath.  Starting at the base of the paws and working upwards along the back and sides and underneath, then continuing towards the head.  I'd use a slicker brush and comb to do this.

Grooming from underneath means that you are grooming from the skin outwards,  working gently through any snags and tangles.  http://www.dogsclub.tv/dog-and-puppy-advice/grooming/long-hair

The final finish is to run through with a fairly fine comb to catch any knots that have been missed.

Not saying your friend hasn't groomed correctly, but I have clipped dogs who were groomed every day, and looked great, but were matted to the skin :-(   So badly I needed a surgical blade in places.

Your friend's pup will grow the coat back, but it will take time.   Depending on the age of the pup, months to a year.    The important thing now, is to learn to groom the coat correctly, if needed and to continue this until the coat is grown.

Regarding clips/trims for Lhasas ,   a puppy trim would be cute and manageable and can be scissored rather than clipped.    Or the coat could be left longer, again scissored to the length desired :-)
