I am breeding my bitch for the first time(yes i,ve done everything, eye test, hip score,ect.) it just the day of mateing im not sure about. My bitches breeder and the dogs owner have said day 14 & 16 but others have said 10 &12. I dont want to miss this time as she is nearly 3 and i dont want to leave it to late for a first litter. Also is a premate blood test worth it and when should that be done?

I consider the premate test worth it if you don't have a male of your own who will tell you when your bitch is ready and you have a fair distance to go.

Bitch's can be ready (ovulating rather than standing) any time between around day 8 and day 24. Some signs that will tell you are when the discharge goes from red to straw coloured and when you run your fingers down her back and down the side of her tail,vulva towards the top of her leg she will swing her tail away from your hand and sort of elevate herself.

PS People have visited this board before saying thay they have carried out all the relevant tests for their breed and in some cases one or more of us know that they have not so don't be too surprised if some of us get cynical :)
