Topic Dog Boards / General / The Dog Rescuers ~Channel 5

I dont think there is already a topic & am surprised one wasnt started last week. Alan Davies is the commentator/host.

I found it fairly good & last weeks story regarding a elderly little black female..(think it was a shih tzu?)..very amazing. She had been a neglet case & on her being taken into the vets to be clippered, her hair had been so matted that it cut off the blood supply to both front paws & as they cut the fur the paws came with it!!!! Also the poor little devil had very bad tooth decay & at the time I did think it might have been kinder to call it a day. They didnt & she was adopted by a lady & I couldnt believe how well she coped with no front paws. A truly remarkable story.

Now this week was equally as good & couldnt believe the poor lab that was unrecogniseable as a lab due to his coat & skeletal body but in a matter of weeks he was a different dog. Another story about a Goldie who had been taken to a 'kennels' to be looked after as his owner had an illness. Well what a digusting place that was..dogs lying in mud/feaces a downright bad state. This poor dog had been there a year, when it was raided luckily the dog had a chip & his owners were traced & returned.

I would recommend watching it next week Tuesday at 8pm

It said that it was due to illness of his owners, they did look frail.. I think it may have been a hospital stay?? They were able to track his owners due to him being microchipped.

I must admit I didn't get the bit about the Golden at all. Who leaves their dog in boarding kennels for a year, and if they were too ill too look after him then, why weren't they now? Maybe it wasn't explained well.

There was some remark last week that really annoyed me but I can't remember what it was now. And yes the paws horrified me as well -thought they said it was a Poodle cross though. Like you I felt it should have been put down but then was amazed at how well she did. One of the better programs I think, showing what the RSPCA does best and ought to concentrate fully on (as opposed to politics etc) rescuing dogs in dire need.

Yes, I thought that was what I remembered but wasnt sure & she wasnt very big..
I normally steer clear of RSPCA but am pleased it is focusing on good stuff ..

I couldn't understand the Goldie either, imagine leaving your dog at a boarding kennel, for a year, and never visiting it once, personally, I wouldn't have done that in the first place.
Illness or not, I found it very strange behaviour .

I am not saying I could leave a dog in kennels for a year either, I dont know the full story. It was the state of the kennels & the fact the dog is now in a good place & looked happy is what I am commenting on.

Did you also notice that the people who left their dog in that awful place for a year had another dog?  You are given just a glimpse.  So view again on catch-up and you will see.
I also watch on Pick the dog programmes from New Zealand and Australia.

Yes, I did  notice, a Westie I think, although tbf, it may not have been their dog.

Or maybe another dog from the kennels that they rescued.

I've watched a few of these episodes now, I did cry at the black lab. How can someone let their dog get to that state?
The first one I watched was a English Bull Terrier which had to be put to sleep. Very sad. Really makes you wonder though.
