Well yesterday we had a visit from one, someone had made a complait about our dogs do not know what I was out my oh was in let him in to see our dogs, said they were all in very good health but because they all lived in the same room and we have 18 dogs and he was new to the job.He is going back to his boss. Can they take our dogs away if they are well cared for help please.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 30.05.14 10:36 UTC
From what I gather no one can just take them even the rspca they would need a warrant to enter your home and take your property.

All though as long as there in good health and living in a clean environment with access to food and water I don't think they would be able to get a warrant.

If your worried most people recommend talking to Trevor Cooper about all things dog law
- By Nikita [gb] Date 30.05.14 14:15 UTC
Give Trevor a call but I don't see how anyone could take them away without any grounds to do so (e.g. neglect).  There may be a lot of them but if you are looking after them then there's no issue.  Was the complaint specifically about their condition, do you know?
- By minnie mouses [gb] Date 30.05.14 14:32 UTC
He just said that they had a complaint nothing else I have not got his phone number.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 30.05.14 17:57 UTC
I would have thought he would have given u a contact number if he wasn't closing the complaint. U might want to call your council up to check this person is actualy there dog warden just to make sure.
- By JeanSW Date 30.05.14 21:32 UTC
Well, I have more dogs than you and all living indoors.  I would have been livid.  I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't have got over my doorstep.  I would have just said "Do One" and closed the door.

Here is the link  for trevor's website. There is a number you can call for advice.

Some councils put a limit to the number of dogs a person can have in one household. Any more than that, then I think you would need to apply to change the status of the house from dwelling to something else - can't remember what now but it is on trevor's website. Have you done this?

In the mean time, try not to worry and maybe look at the rspca's welfare standards. If anyone turns up again, you can atleast say the dogs are well cared for in accordance to them.

Good luck and please keep us posted

The warden spoke to next door about our dogs and they said that they did not have any problems with them.We are going to ring trevor on Monday when they are open.
- By Nikita [gb] Date 31.05.14 13:44 UTC
Did he show you any ID?  Seems a bit odd not to leave a number.
- By Ingrid [gb] Date 31.05.14 17:44 UTC
Wouldn't it be a good idea to contact the council first and try and speak to the dog warden and find out what the problem is (if any) before you start spending money on legal advice ?
- By minnie mouses [gb] Date 03.06.14 10:22 UTC
The dog warden has just ring up to ask if he and the rspca could come and see us not to take any dogs away, so we said yes they are coming on friday13th at 1pm.

I'm not sure I would agree to let the RSPCA in. What they consider acceptable dog keeping and what we do are not necessarily the same, and once in they use their bullying tactics. They have no right to enter if you refuse. Did you really mean that you keep 18 dogs all in one single room? I'd have thought that alone would be something they would jump at, no matter how good condition the dogs are in. Hence I'd refuse.

It is a big room they have the run of downstairs and can get into the garden any time they want

That's the point in homes that are open plan one room can be most of the living space outside of bedrooms.

This is why I found the idea floated in breeding standards by some that dogs kept in home environment should have access to two rooms at a all times.

Mien certainly do not, if I am out they are confined to the kitchen, (reasonably large, and enough space for the six dogs) as they are if we have visitors, and have access to the adjoining living room on invitation and under supervision.

If they had access to the front room otherwise they would bark at passers-by and people at the bus stop outside.

Very much horses fro courses.  If we were way back from the road or in the country this precaustion for noise reduction might not apply.

Sounds like an ideal set up to me -my point was that the RSPCA are so anti pedigree dogs and breeders and there is no way I'd want to let them in, and you don't have to.

I would definitely get legal advice before you let them anywhere near your dogs. If they said not to take any away it means they have thought about it :(. and they lie.

>Did you really mean that you keep 18 dogs all in one single room? I'd have thought that alone would be something they would jump at.

depends what size dog and room. but I wouldnt trust the rspce to act sensibly. The more I think about it the more worried I am that the dog warden thinks that he needs the RSPCA to visit to assess your situation. Be very careful. And I would make absolutely sure that all your dogs are in tip top health. clean, nicely groomed, nails short etc. Room clean and garden excrement free. Not that I doubt you but they could jump on thie tiniest thing.

I too would be extremely worried that the Dog Warden wants to visit with the RSPCA.  I would also photograph each dog and the living area/garden before they come.

Here's a site that will give you your rights regarding the RSPCA

Please, please do not allow the RSPCA into any part of your home. They have no legal right to enter your property despite what they may threaten you with. I would be on the phone to the dog warden demanding to know what the orginal complaint was and why he wants to return with the RSPCA. Bear in mind the dog warden also has no right to enter your home either.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 03.06.14 17:40 UTC
I'd be worried if this was me to be honist. The only reason the warden would call in the rspca is if he thought how u were keeping your dogs was wrong and is calling them in so sort it. I would never trust the rspca, we all know they don't like pedigree dogs and breeders, they will say one thing then do another. Wondering if the warden is classing u as a dog hoarder. As if he didn't think how u were keeping them was wrong why would he even need to visit u again let alown call out the rspca, it could be they want to try to get you to sign some of them over or worse.

When they come I wouldn't invite them in but instead go outside and speak to them, closing the door behind you. Demand to know exactly what the complaint was, why that are back and insist on id for both the warden and rspca officer so u can check they are realy who they say they are as I'm sure I've Hurd of fake rspca officers trying to get someone to hand there dogs over befor. As others habe said make sure everything is spotless so there is nothing they could pick u up on.  Also a health check on them from your vet would be good too.

We are ringing the dog warden up and cancelling we do not want them near our dogs we've had them for a long time and will not give them up.
- By minnie mouses [gb] Date 04.06.14 10:18 UTC
We rong the dog warden and cancelled the meeting on June13th, we said that we did not want him and the RSPCA in our home also we asked him about the complait  he said it was because we had 18 dogs but he would not have known that had he not come into our home. Also I said we have had dogs since 1983 without any body complaining also I said,we have been adviced not to let you are the RSPCA in our home.and that we was not going to give up any of our dogs.It seems very funny, he said that he was going to see the rspca.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 04.06.14 11:30 UTC
Sounds like there trying to class u as a hoarder and don't think u could propperly look after that amount of dogs.
