Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Dehydrated carrots

I recently won a bag of Olewo dehydrated carrots at a show in Germany, I've had samples of the stuff from them before. I love it, or rather the dogs do. I feed a mixture of Applaws grain free complete and raw food but struggle to keep weight off my two neutered bitches. If having applaws they can really only have a small half handful, if raw only about a quarter of a lb of tripe, or 2 chicken wings and I feel awful because they watch longingly as the boys eat their big bowls full.

Anyway, the silken girl will not eat a raw carrot, I have tried as I thought this would be an ideal bulking agent to make her full but not put weight on, she goes racing twice a week and has a long walk every day so is very active. The olewo works a treat though, a tiny handful makes a huge bowl when soaked that can be shared among the 4 dogs and the girls get their tiny amount of applaws with it making decent bowl of food to eat. The effect on poo is not disastrous, they obviously do slightly bigger ones but still firm.

Having only received free samples before I hadn't realised how expensive it is, does anyone know of a cheap supplier of dehydrated carrot and if one dried carrot is much like another?

These look to be similar (and cheaper) unless you invest in a dehydrator and do them yourself :-D

Jane a friend of mine invested in a dehydrator and makes all her own treats and also food to take away with her for the dogs when she is camping. Her dogs are all fed raw and very fit, active dogs who do agility and cannicross. She loves it and her dogs love the end results :-)

I have one as well, so does my agility trainer.
Once dried, the treats keep a very long time, if kept dry, and retain their smell. Any kind of fish, or chicken livers, are my dogs' favourites.

I dry the dogs liver treats in a low oven, I guess I could do the same with carrots, didn't occur to me :D

Thanks Tatty-ead for the link, may get them if my own are a disaster (that's an optimistic 'if' ) :-)
