Don't buy a Dyson Vacuum cleaner and they are not as good as they used to be since James Dyson sold the company. Mine has had problems since new the first engineer didn't solve it and now they are saying there is NO engineer in my area unbelievable with such a large company so if your machine is under guarantee like mine you are stuffed.

I hadn't appreciated that James Dyson had sold the company.
My sons Dyson has just packed in after a little over a year and it was returned to the company for repair quite easily and will be back to him in two weeks. (He's borrowed our upstairs cleaner)

I totally agree with you Peppe. I've had a fair few Dysons since the yellow upright came out but they won't be getting my money again. I'll probably go for the good old Henry next time.

I've had a Dyson Animal (the original one, not the 41) for about 10 years now, and it's only needed the engineer out once.

I had the original DC 01 and still have the upright Dyson animal which is about 13/14 years old. I had an engineer out to replace the motor on it 2 years ago and I use it every single day. It is absolutely brilliant. I also have the smaller Dyson animal for the rooms where my dogs don't go, it takes some of the strain off my big one.

I also have the Dyson bladeless fan which has recently had a product recall but it was very efficient and I didn't have any problems with it at all, I only sent it back because of the safety concern.

I know that he moved production to Malaysia because of costs and also went into partnership with a Malaysian Company but I didn't know that he had sold the Company? Who bought it?

That's interesting our first Dyson was fantastic but the more recent one we have now was fine to start with but now no where near as good as it was. I'd already decided the next one wouldn't be Dyson but didn't know about the sale.

My sister has a dyson and I can't say I'm overly impressed - especially at their prices! I'd always vote for vax.

Mines a DC014 all floors and still good as new and it's more than 10 years old.

I have had many many vacs (slight obsession of mine) and I can say without doubt best one is my dyson but for the car the henry is the best as the attachments are fantastic for picking up fluff off the upholstery.

Yes the one before this was very good and lasted for years. My sons older one is brilliant it seems the quality as gone down hill dramatically since James Dyson sold it I believe he is still a director but not sure. They offered to take mine back for repair but with two large hairy dogs and a grandson who has to visit regular and has allergies I have to hoover just before he comes so cannot do with out for a long period of time. I suggested they let me have a loan machine while repairing it but were not interested. I just cannot understand why they haven't a repair man in the area being such a big company. It needs a new cable and it keeps falling over to the side even when clicked into the up right position also they are having to send me a new hose as this one has split.

I have recently bought a new one and the quality still seems pretty much the same, however my MIL bought the tiny upright and for £350 it seems incredibly flimsy.

I agree about the smaller ones. As I said, I have the bigger original Dyson animal that is many years old and then bought the smaller animal to give my big one a break but the smaller one gets blocked much easier and doesn't have the suction. It is often the case that they don't make them like they used to with every household appliance I have found.

I believe that James Dyson is still the chief engineer and major shareholder in the Company but having now shifted to Malaysia to manufacture, this could be where the problem lays. Cheaper parts = shorter life expectancy and less efficiency. I have had a lot of vacuum cleaners over the years but my oldest Dyson is the best, think I have formed an emotional attachment to it!

Mine is only 1 1/2yrs old that should be nothing for a Dyson with a 5yr guarantee.

Dyson customer service crap. Tell you they are sending an item out when it doesn't arrive you ring them and they say it will be with you in 2 days when it still doesn't arrive ring again only to be told it wasn't sent out until 2 days ago when I rang and it will be here next week. We shall see probably not. Why can't they be honest in the first place would love to be a fly on the wall as I think they make it up as they go along.

That's odd I have always found customer serie excellent. I have never had to send one back they come out to me and do the job on the spot at a set price. Admittedly I have got the lime green ones so don't know what the current ones are like and I have also had a dc01 until they stop replacing parts
If I had to get another make I don't what I would choose

I have/had a Dyson DC05 Allergy - 2 year guarantee at that time. Bought it 15 years ago.

It broke down (my fault) and an engineer came out to fix it at a fixed price for parts and service of £60. He replaced, wand, hose and brush head and then refused to charge me anything.

When having some doors replaced and carpet laid, the fitter, without my permission, got my vac and broke the brush head. No more parts available so Dyson have just sold me a £299 new vac plus a 'power' brush head(cost £54) for a total of £80. It arrived next day.

I think that is great customer service.
