Topic Dog Boards / Showing / ShCM points
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 07.05.14 18:16 UTC
I'm hoping to get the last few points needed for my boy's ShCM, but as he was my first real effort at showing I realise belatedly my strategy was poor. Our breed doesn't often have its own classes, and where they do, the shows tend not to be on the group system, with the result that we are frequently in AVNSC classes. The competition in these classes is regularly very strong indeed, so we are struggling with these last few points.

Having said that, my boy did go BIS (at an open show not on the group system...!), which I imagine is harder to do still. My understanding is that BIS or not, he still needs group points. So advice on strategy would be very welcome--should I focus on shows on the group system with breed classes only, or just try all those on the group system and hope for the best! I should say he is nearly 5--still in his prime, but...!!!

Do you not get the additional points for the BIS, which would count toward the tally of multiple (non BOB or BNSC single points).

It says you get 5 points for BIS, and also 5 points needed in Group competition, but surely BIS is equivalent or superior to group competition.

If you already have over 25 with that win then I would apply and see what happens, and count that one form the group tally.

I think the reasoning is to not have someone win the award having never beaten another dog by getting single BOB/BNSC points with no opposition.

Well done on the BIS, I have a champion with 10CC's who has never gained such an award.

Edit:

It says in: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media/29449/aw03_claim_for_a_certificate_of_merit.pdf

2 Nine points for Best in Show at a General Open Show or Group Open Show not judged on the
Group System effective date 1st January 2011 (five points for Best in Show at a General Open
Show or Group Open Show not judged on the Group System if gained prior to 1st January
2011)

About as clear as mud.

I attend so few open shows these days I have never bothered to keep track.

You do indeed, Brainless--that BIS win was worth a total of 9 points, 5 points plus 4 which would be the maximum he would get for the group. He has 21 points now, so he either needs 4 more--or if he needs his group points, 5 more.

He will never get the ticket in our breed--his litter brother is already heading for the breed record and there is very tough competition at the top, even though this is a numerically small breed...but I would love him to get his ShCM and his stud book number :-)

Go for it girls, if we had worthwhile competition at Open level (numerically) nearby I'd probably do more shows.

Just recently I had a disappointing day at my most local Open show, so decided to support with my RCC winning bitch yearling bitch, in AVNSC hound class, was  against one mini dachs, just the two of us, like an Irish brace and we were second.

Waited all day for the stakes class at the ring it was supposed to be judged in only to find at the end we had missed it as they had moved it to another ring and I had missed the announcement probably when toileting the dog.

Doesn't really encourage participation.

Don't think the Sh.CM carries a stud book number, if this was your hope - that's just the JW. You might know that you need to win that in other ways and I've just read it wrong, but wouldn't want you to be disappointed when you get there.

No, Lily Mc, I know that...but he can do it in a number of ways (1st Limit, 1st or 2nd Open, RDCC  or CC)

What band is your breed in? I have a breed that is small numerically and Stud book numbers only come from CC, RCC 1st, 2nd in open. We have an average of 40 entries at champ shows.

We are in Band C this year (we were in Band D)--and despite being a numerically small breed, our champ show entries at 100 dogs making 120+ entries
