Hi I am the proud owner of a 9 week old gsp pup bitch. She has been fed on Iams proactive puppy food by her breeder. When I first brought her home 4 days ago she had a few dry spots on her muzzle. On taking her for her first vaccinations I asked the vet what they were and he said it was a common skin infection. It will be checked by him again in 2 weeks time. These spots have increased around her mouth and she is a bit itchy and has mild dandruff. Meanwhile I think it is the quality of dry kibble that she has been feeding on. I'm wondering on your opinion on EDEN dry food for puppies? Or any suggestions on other foods please ..I would prefer to keep to the dry biscuits as she does seem happy with this form of food. Thanks
Eden is no doubt a high quality (and UK made) kibble. Whether your dog gets on with it will be a personal thing to that dog in the end. You can never tell. With a young puppy make sure you transition her slowly, I would say about 5% change a day (thus over three weeks in total).
Mine were on Acana, which is similar to Eden, before we switched to raw. Which I have to say I wish I'd done many years and many dogs ago. The difference is amazing and I wouldn't rule it out if you're planning to change.
Haven't used Eden but I have used both Orijen and Arcana. No question these are top rated foods but mine were always hungry due to small quantities required so switched back to a grain free fish / duck product with potato so feed rate slightly higher and suits my GSP's better. A GSP I bred who works for fire service as a sniffer dog is fed arcana ( sponsorship) and she does great on it.
Thanks for your replies. I have decided to slowly introduce orijen puppy! If she likes it and her skin improves then I have the answer! I have only bought a medium size bag of it just to be sure! I see arcana is the cheaper uk version so that also may be an option.
Origen and arcana are both Canadian foods made my the same company and imported to Uk via bern pet foods. Eden, Simpson 80/20, Applaws are all similar versions of these imported foods and all manufactured at same extrusion plan in UK for the companies
