Following on from my recent post regarding my whinging elderly cocker. She is on Vivitonin, but from the off she has been gagging a yellow/greeny bile. I left the tablets off for a day and she improved but I started her back on again last night and during the night and this morning the vomiting of bile started again.
She seems quite distressed and nauseous so I am thinking about stopping the tablets and just putting up with the whinging.

I am not comfortable with putting her through this in the hope that she stops barking and talking to herself. If something is life threatening then of course you give medication to help your dog, but just because she has become noisy I doubt that the side effects are worth putting her through this.

Has anyone else had this vomiting problem with these tablets?

The datasheet for Vivitonin says "Vomiting has been observed on rare occasions, particularly at the commencement of therapy.". It would be worth giving her a little snack last thing at night so that her tummy isn't empty and see if that helps. And of course discuss it with your vet.

We never had this. I agree with Jeangenie. Hope things improve for you both.

Have you tried Aktivait instead? It makes a big different to my 13-year old lurcher that started showing signs of dementia, including whinging. It is a nutraceutical (medical food supplement) to combat dementia in dogs.

Charlie was on Vivitonin for just over 4 years and never had these problems. If I remember rightly I gave them about an hour before breakfast and again an hour before tea in a small piece of banana or cheese. He always had a bedtime biscuit as well.

My vet has suggested leaving them off for a few days to let her tum settles and then trying with them again. If she gets upset again then to stop completely.
If this happens then I will try the Activait to see if this helps instead.
Time will tell
