Topic Dog Boards / Showing / AVNSC & AV classes

Hope I can explain my question without sounding confusing!

I would like to enter a puppy at an Open show that doesn't have a breed class. The Avnsc class doesn't have a puppy class but does have special yearling. I have a slow maturing breed as it is so don't really want to go up against youngsters of up to 2 years. The AV classes does have a puppy class. Now can I just enter in the AV Puppy because the Avnsc doesn't have a puppy classes or do I still need to enter Avnsc because technically that is my breed class???

Hope that isn't too confusing! :)

If you want to be eligible for the group and it's a show run on the group system then you'd need to go in AVNSC.

But I'd enter it anyway as you can still go Best Puppy even if beaten by older dogs.

If it's not run on group system any unbeaten dog can go for BIS/BPIS, so you would qualify from an AV class also.

A lot depends on who is judging which class./  If the group judge is doing the AVNSC then I'd enter that, if they like yore dog and you win the class you may stand a chance in puppy group, ditto if theya re doing the AV'sa and groups..

When no puppy classes are scheduled in breed or AVNSC then so long as the av puppy is scheduled before the group judging the av puppy does qualify for the puppy group. Puppies do not have to enter Breed or AVNSC if there isn't a puppy class.

I agree with Satincollie, you can't enter AVNSC if there are any classes scheduled for your breed, even though there isn't a puppy class. You don't have to enter a breed class with a puppy if there isn't a puppy class. So you would be left with AV (group) puppy but often these are judged after the group. I also have a slow maturing breed (Irish Setter) and I go into the lowest breed class regardless, I might be highest placed puppy and therefor BPIB then elligible for the puppy group. So you need to check the schedule to see if AV puppy is judged before the group.
