Have a new baby westie, first injection last Friday went down hill on sunday, (bit lethargic, Thought maybe vaccine), vets on Monday morning, still eating etc, just not himself. Yesterday through examination suspected lion jaw, hes know on a painkiller, better but not himself.  He is insured, and will be phoning breeder tonight. Really just want to ask if anyone has any experience of this. Thanks. Working for a couple of hours if I don't reply please excuse x

It's not unusual for Westies to have this condition - in fact one of it's other names is 'Westie Jaw'. I know of two or three who've had this, and a few months of medication to control the discomfort has seen them right by the time they're about a year old.

It is an inherited condition in Westies, usually but not always evident before the pups go to their new home and so the breeder is righly your first point of call.  I'm glad that he is insured.

Well it's never too late to learn!!   As I've never heard of this I Googled and found

Clearly the breeder should know about this.   Seems it is 'self-limiting' which is probably the good news.   Hope he'll be okay.

Thanks for the link MamaBas.  In all my years with dogs, I have never heard of this either.  And I think it's always good to read of these different diseases, even if it's not in one of our own breeds.

Thank you so much for the link and kind words. Actually had him back today at vets, changed him to pardale pain killer, instead of loxicom, which fingers crossed has made a big difference. x
