Hi

My 2 boys have been sick (throwing up) since overnight on Monday.  At first it was just the yellow bile & froth, then one of them brought his undigested food up an hour after eating.  I starved them for 24 hours and then gave a small amount of chicken & rice but when I got home yesterday there was rice on the door mat and my eldest one went outside and brought up more froth.

I have starved them again (no tea last night and nothing this morning) but just wondering if there's anything else I can do.  They are drinking and their tummies are ok in other respects.  They are behaving normally; my youngest had a mad 5 minutes as usual after his walk this morning and they played together.

Is this just a bug that will pass?

Get them to the vets.  Unexplained sickness is always a cause for concern and should be checked. There are too many variables for any of us to diagnose on a forum

A blockage is unlikely in two dogs  but identical symptoms in both should raise questions only a vet can answer.  Before you go make sure you write down as much info as you can so that you can give an accurate picture of their condition.  Are they still drinking?

As an aside I would rarely withhold food and never for 24 hours without vet advice.  Preventing sickness in this way just masks the condition and can delay you from getting the fast advice you need.  Hope all is ok

Are they normally okay with rice? Many dogs cannot tolerate it so hence with my own I'd use just chicken and no rice for a stomach upset.

and of course some dogs don't do well with chicken, LOL

Hi
Yes, they have had rice (and chicken) before and no problems.  I gave them a small amount of just chicken this morning, barely a tablespoonful each, so will see later if they have kept it down.

If this is a bug I would not be waiting to see if it "goes away"

A vet visit before the weekend is upon us I think.  After all, if it's happened since Monday, you need a qualified person to make a diagnosis now.

Well, we have been vomit-free for 24 hours now so I think they are both getting better.
I popped home yesterday lunchtime to see if they had kept down the small amount of chicken that they'd had in the morning - everything was okay.  So they had a little bit of rice and more chicken last night and there was no sick this morning.
Breakfast was more of the same with a very small amount of kibble mixed in.
Will see how things are later and if there is any vomit I will be taking them to the vet.
