Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Tripe getting really stinky!
- By G.Rets [gb] Date 07.02.14 21:44 UTC
I have fed my dogs tripe for many years and for about 10 years have bought it from Albion who deliver every 2 weeks and put it into the freezer for me. However for many months now the quality has deteriorated. It has become so stinky that I can no longer stand it. The current batch smells really sour (not "off" just revolting.) This may be okay for those who dish it up in kennels but my dogs are fed in the kitchen and it leaves the entire house smelly. Has anyone else noticed a different quality? Maybe Albion use a different supplier now.  Can anyone recommend an alternative supplier of tripe at a reasonable price? I have about 30kg delivered at a time so not a huge order. Not enough for Anglian I guess? Delivery would need to be to Dorset.

I've tried most suppliers now, I wasn't that impressed by the quality of Albion. Great customer service though. But I have finally got a supplier I've stuck with for many months now, check out raw2paw, I checked their delivery schedule and they deliver to Dorset monthly. Most of the mince I feed is DAF, but you could always try the MVM, DAF and Bulmers tripe ( raw 2 paw stock all of these) in a single order to try them all out without having to order loads from one supplier :) I've ordered bulmers for the first time this month. Along with the usual DAF best beef tripe. I find lamb tripe smells more than beef so I stick to beef now. Raw 2 Paw do stock Albion too, as it happens!

I don't know whereabouts you are, but a friend of mine has recently set up a company called The Dogs Butcher. She has a FB page. She's just starting up delivery routes and will be covering parts of Dorset.

I used to use DAF for years but the quality deteriorated so I finally settled with  MVM. The food is great quality if not a bit more expensive, but doesn't smell unlike some other suppliers I have used.

The best tripe imo (and my dogs!) is the Nutriment tripe. It smells (fairly!) pleasant - it smells tripey but not stink out the house and neighbour hood and is a total hit. It comes in 500g tubs or 1.4kg chubbs :)

They also do a breeder scheme for money off (20% I think) or if you bulk buy over 70kg you get 30% off

PLUS if you give my name (PM me :) ) you get £10 off first order :)
