Had my girl to vet again today with the usual vomiting. Starts off with yellow frothy then after a few days its partially digested food. Poos are normal for first few days then are slimy and bloody. Bye now she gets sporadic episodes of abdominal pain.
Because as a youngster she was always eating things like pebbles, I am now worried she has something lodged, but vet thinks she would be more acute. So its bloods done and if nothing shows then they will xray and scan. Shes been given Zantac and Cerenia. The odd thing is vet said if the Cerenia doesn't help the pain to give her a quarter of a paracetamol. I thought paracetamol was toxic to dogs.
Oh I'm just so worried its something serious.

Well I certainly know of one idiot giving it to his cat and causing organ failure.

Cats have a different physiology. Many drugs, chemicals and even some natural substances are highly toxic to cats, but not dogs. Without looking it up, it's the ability of the body to excrete toxins that is the difference.

Our vet told us that it was OK to give Bramble paracetamol in an emergency if he was in pain with his back legs, until we could get him to the vet for other medication. I forget how much he said was OK - as I have forgotten I wouldn't risk guessing tho' and he hasn't needed it anyway :)

Totally agree with you on that one Daisy.  :-)

There are certain drugs I keep in stock, but would err on the side of caution when it came to administering to a new dog for the first time.  In a case such as that, a quick phone call to my own vet means I get safe advice.

Hi All, Thanks for replies. Apparently Paracetamol is only toxic to dogs when given in large quantities, which is why she stressed to give only a quarter of a tablet. I didn't give it tho. The 2nd day I remembered Pro-Kolin and gave her some. Made a big difference as far as the abdominal pain. Today was the first day there was no bloody poos and she is really picking up. Vet phoned with inhouse blood results which were normal, which I find very strange considering how poorly she's been. I'm feeding her fish and will keep her on fish based foods to see if that helps. Maybe chicken is not right for her. Trial and error. At least my girls on the mend.

I always keep some in stock, it really settles tums doesn't it?  I keep the cheap value packs of white fish in the freezer just in case as it can easily be poached from frozen if any of my dogs has bloody poos or gippy tums.
