It's very sad that there are still people like this out there.

Note used to show no dog in that state would place at shows.

I'm more concerned about the 'bred' than the 'show' ~ even if she "used to breed"(alluding to the fact she doesn't now)  she could still have dogs returning?

I can never really comprehend these cases, surely a person can't be so cruel as to not care? Do they just become over whelmed and go into denial? Why don't they use breed rescue if they can't cope or provide for their dogs, yes it's heartbreaking to give up your beloved animals but surely the bigger heart allows them to go somewhere where they can be better looked after and afforded veterinary care where needed?

Such a shame.. I don't believe anyone should tar all dog exhibitors/breeders with the same brush or use this as evidence that is something 'normal' but nor should we protest it doesn't currently happen in the show or working worlds. Many of us know it does to greater and lesser degrees.... But thankfully in an absolute (and hopefully abhorred by all) minority!

:-(

It happens just as much with 'rescuers' it's the 'hoarder' syndrome, and really part of mental health issues.

Yea, it does fit the bill when you think about it.

Brainless you are right - all too often people just don't realise they have taken on more than they can truly cope with - and these people need help.   Wasn't there something the KC had set up some years ago now, to assist people who just got in over their heads?   I seem to think is was the time when a GSD breeder was involved.

amberwell and Dr Helen Hein I suspect mamba. Another very sad case that has been on going for years. At one time she bred some lovely dogs :(

Yes, that was she.   And I agree, she did have some lovely dogs at one point.   Her case was just one example of how sad it is when people just get in over their heads.   Not for nothing did we start reducing our numbers, not replacing those we lost, some years ago now.   It was a very hard thing to do, but not having kids to take up the reins after us, I felt it had to be done.  But without doubt in some of these cases, there should be people out there to help - much as some won't accept help, or acknowledge there is a problem.

>much as some won't accept help, or acknowledge there is a problem.

And really, that's a good indicator of mental health issues.   Not being able to see when things are beginning to get of hand and they can't cope.     Another indicator is not realising that age or infirmity will mean having to reduce dog numbers.

What is really sad is that these people must have had friends, relatives who could or should have got them some help before this stage was reached :-(

Bad mothers
Struck off GPs
Drunk drivers

There's bad in every walk of life..
Best not to tar every one with the same brush.
- By furriefriends Date 10.01.14 17:17 UTC
Agree Dill but even with willing friends and relatives some will not or cannot accept that they need help. Its so sad when we are talking about a living think being harmed by the owner who has mental health issues however that is what it is a symptom of a problem. Anyone see the programme recently The women with forty cats?
imo she was going down the same route, still showing atm, just about coping from what you could see but for how much longer ? Things didn't look good.

As toolz says unfortunately there are plenty of examples in all walks of life

She's stuck in the past breeding cats that no longer are considered show quality, getting certificates withheld frequently at shows, but I certainly did not see one single cat that looked in poor condition and it will take a lot of time to groom 40 Persians in full coat, yet no time at all for them to start getting matted. So she clearly seems to be keeping up with it.

The story is in DW this week saying she is disputing what the RSPCA is saying and none of the dogs have been signed over whilst the courtcase is going on.
