Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Open class for veteran?
- By fushang [gb] Date 01.01.14 17:39 UTC
Hi, my girl turned 7yrs on xmas day - is it ok to enter her in a open class for her breed at a Open show? The only veteran class there is,is AV Veteran but I would rather enter her in her breed class.
Thanks Anne

Of course you can enter your open breed class, I am very much the same & much prefer breed classes to AV. Just because she is 7 doesnt mean you have to go into Veteran, you could if you wanted enter a minor puppy in open. Yes, one lucky person did this at a champ show, a few years ago & was the only one in the class...gaining herself a stud book number.

I've been entering my 9 year old in Open for years now - I also enter AV Toy Veteran when there is one (AV Veteran usually requires too much waiting around and too big a class) and I find putting her in Open settles her nicely for the Veteran class. We have encountered a few judges who when they discover her age just pat her on the head and say 'enjoying her day out, eh', but mostly we've done quite well - 2 months ago we won BOB and G2!!!!

She is my first veteran :) I did want to support the class and judge in particular.
Thank you for the replies.

I've still got one of the veterans I show in limit or open. She looks/acts far too young, it seems silly to enter her in veterans at this point.
