This evening I have noticed that she is licking her bottom hole - sorry !!
She is up to date on worming, has never had any problems with anal glands but may be coming into season.
Anyhow, she looks to have made it a bit red. Is it OK to put a dab of Sudocrem on or not ?

Have you actually checked that her glands aren't full?  One of mine chewed her bot to bleeding last time hers needed emptying but didn't show any other signs until that day.

The licking of the bottom continued - only once or twice a day at the most - then she started to chew her left rear foot. So tonight I checked her anal glands and I could feel them so emptied them as best as I could, having never done it before. Will have another check tomorrow.

Does she need to go to the vet or is it OK just to ask the groomer to empty them ?

Well if the groomer knows what she's doing then let her empty them but if you have a dog who's obviously been uncomfortable for some time I'd have been at the vet by now.

The groomer does empty glands if necessary, but we agreed for her not to do my dogs as she didn't have a problem so I didn't want to cause one.
I have checked them again this morning and they are empty.
