Now the pup is coming up to six months, I've started to keep an eye on her regarding her first season as I'm aware sometimes there are not a lot of signs. I've just had an email back from the breeders to ask when my girls mother had her first season. It was when she was 13 months and her sisters was at 14 months. The breeders also kept one of the bitch pups from the litter so they are keeping an eye on her too as they have a number of entire males. Anyway, my question is, do pups follow there mums as regarding the timing of their first season?

Sometimes, sometimes not. I have a bitch whose first season was at 12 months but she had 2 daughters (from two different litters) that had their first at 8 months. Interestingly they both went to the same owner but the bitch pups I kept myself from the same litters waited until over a year.

One of my recent litter has nearly finished her season & she is 12 months next weekend. Her 2 sisters(all 3 mine) are showing any signs yet. Their mother came in at 9 months.
You will sometimes get them coming in together...if your lucky.

Ok, looks like I will have to continue keeping an eye on her. She doesn't get to meet many entire dogs apart from her brother on some occasions. Thanks for the replies.

Not the 2 I know about - my older bitch cycles much more slowly (7 / 8 months) than her mum did (4 / 5 months!) and had her first season at just short of 12 months. Her own daughter cycles at around 6 months and had her first season at 7 months.

My breeder was right about my girls first season, she to me she would mostlikley be around 10 months and she was. I find it can be a bit stressful waiting for a bitch to come in, well at least for me lol. What I plan to do is when she is due and I think she is thinking about coming in I take her to my friends house and see what her boys think. They normally chatter there teeth when a bitch is due, normally up to a week befor. Mines due in any time but I bet she will Waite untill the lka shows.

None of my 3 girls have followed their (different) mums in timing of their seasons.

My youngest seems to be every 8 months and I have noticed a trend developing that every time she is due in season, for 1-2 weeks beforehand, she starts marking loads when out on walks.

Our pup's now 8½ months old and since she was about 6 months old I've been keeping a vague eye on her waiting for signs that she'll come in season; my previous bitches (a different breed) have tended to come in about 8 months, though my current older girl is regular at 6½ months). When we asked pup's breeder the age that her mum had her first season we were astonished to be told she was 3½ years!! :-o  So it could be any time!
