Just out of curiosity how much have you paid your most expensive puppy
Only asking as I was looking a kennel and really like theres dogs and would like to bring 1 over but the price is quite alot
What breed and how much and was iitan import or in your country
Il start us of
Bullmastiff
Nearly £5000 uk pounds with out shipping
Import
I havent bought 1 but thats what I was quoted

Even allowing for the HUGE differences between breeds, that seems very excessive to me! Not counting other costs, I paid 700 euros for my Malinois import 4 years ago. Never paid more than £700 for any breed in the UK but then again most of my dogs are either homebred or have been bred by friends who don't charge me. I've paid far more for cats!

I havent imported (cant say I would) but I strongly expect the cost would be considerably higher no matter what breed.
The most I have ever paid for my breed(Whippet) is £500(2 years ago) for a bitch & that is around the norm at the moment. Cost can vary quite a bit in my breed & there is a trend for one colour to be costing at least £100 more than any other(thats fashion & gullable people for you!!).

I am collecting a pup from the Netherlands in the New Year. Pup is 950 Euros.. around £800... Which is only slighly more than UK prices...

My most expensive puppy was one I bred myself as I travelled abroad to mate the bitch, sold 3 pups in UK and one went to the stud owner, so mine and the studs cost us twice what the buyers of the other puppies paid, so well over £1000.
Mine because of the additonal costs for the litter, and the stud owners the cost of shipping and pup instead of stud fee.
I havent imported (cant say I would) but I strongly expect the cost would be considerably higher no matter what breed.£5000, WITHOUT the costs for the actual importation process being included?!
Hi andy
dont know if you remeber me but i have the same breed as yourself and there is no way i would pay that much for a import not including having the dog shipped over, try asking Bill Warren i know he has imorted a few dogs or Triona Rogers they have just imported a pup.
Bill from Copperfield I havent been to any shows in last few months due to having a lot on my plate but next show I go il ask them for advice
Thanks

I'd expect it to poop gold for that money.

There is no way on this earth I would pay that for a Puppy of any breed no matter where it came from. There are too many variables. With the best will in the world it can be very difficult to predict how a puppy will develop. There are hundreds of tales out there of breeders who thought they kept the best pup only to find that one sold to a pet home surprised them by turning out much better than expected. Personal experience the pick dog pup from my last litter is turning out much smaller than expected. still very nicely proportioned but smaller than his sister who I kept.
I would only ever pay a similar price to a pup over here. I might pay a lot more for a mature adult who I could see offered what I was looking for in my breeding program, but a puppy? no way.

Some of the big show winning bulldogs get sold on abroad for excess of 5k apparently. Crazy though and seems like a licence to pribt money.

My breed is 1200-1600 without travel costs. Healthy breed too.

Ive seen toy breeds from well known breeders advertised at 5k . Seems far too much to me.

My breed, Briard - not imported... the pups are around £800.00 on average. I paid £650 for my first boy over 10 years ago, £750 for my bitch 8 years ago and this year paid £850 for my current pup. They come from an excellent, very healthy kennel and are not a common breed so I am happy to pay for a healthy sound dog.

Gosh, some of these prices make me feel much better at paying the £850 for my latest! It was going to be £650 on breeding terms but as the breeder was considering emigrating she suggested upping the price and me having her outright, and I agreed as it would make it a lot easier when it came to entering shows, never mind how to send a puppy abroad if it came to that!! It's about £100 more than the going price in my breed and she's not even top quality bless her, but too late now, she's my wicked little baby!

Paid £900 for the new pup (GR) and I don't begrudge a penny. She comes from good lines and was beautifully bought up and cared for. It's seems to be towards the top end for the breed currently.
The previous two were bought in 1998 and 1999 and cost £725 and £750 respectively.
Five thousand seems an awful lot to me. Why so much?

£5,000 + import costs WTF ?? is this dog a multi championed stud dog of huge potential ?? A fully trained working dog ?
If not IMHO you are being done
Never paid more than £200 for any of my puppies & one or two were even free !
Would expect to pay upto £700/£800 for a pedigree KC reg puppy from fully health tested parents

They're having a laugh! It would have to be a record-breaking champion for that!

I have looked at importing a puppy from Sweden, was told breeder's price in Swedish Krona which, when converted, was nearly twice what I would pay for a puppy over here. I think the bad exchange rates at the moment do have an impact as, when I queried this price with someone who'd already brought in from Sweden, she said they had got a much better rate at the time they bought their dog which had brought the cost back in line with the UK.
I also had to factor in the cost of collecting the puppy as the breeder is not prepared to send out on it's own.
Obviously my breed is not common in the UK and the new lines would be helpful, but if I was looking at a breed easily bought over here I wouldn't consider importing as I don't breed or show enough to warrant the cost.
I have looked at importing a puppy from Sweden, was told breeder's price in Swedish Krona which, when converted, was nearly twice what I would pay for a puppy over here. Also you will find Swedish breeders tend to charge the same for all breeds, not like here where different breeds have different prices. Not to mention it is an expensive country to live in and therefore people earn more. My best friend recently told me how much she was earning per month -in a low paid office job without any qualifications, that she barely scrapes by on as a single mother. Equal to £2700! She also mentioned a recent vet bills she was satisfied with as it wasn't too bad -just under £2500!!

When you think though bulldogs jave quite big litters and can make 20k for a litter jist think what a mega top winning dog commands, hence why the fact they are evermore popular. Money talks at the expense of the animals usually :(
Also I've heard talk of some dogs commanding triple that but can't say for sure if that is true.

I echo that on costs marianne when a sweedish friend said sje thought crufts was cheap :)

Not counting my home bred pup who ended up costing me over £3k, possibly more than £4k, I've never been brave enough to add up all the costs, my most expensive was my flatcoat, she cost £750 which is about average.

the costs of importing my pup skyrocket from a very reasonable quote of around 600-900 (depending on crate size) when i first made enquiries before he was even born to costing a figure in the thousands that i can't even bear to type. Service was brilliant and everything but unfortunately had i known the figure would rise, and rise and rise (even in the last days) I would have driven and driven him back. Expensive learning curve!!

Iv imported a bullmastiff this year (about 8 weeks ago) and it came to £2500 all in with dog, papers, passport and travel. The puppy was from a well known sucsessful kennel the other side of Europe with his father being an american import, and I'm doing it all again early to mid next year with another bullie. £5k is a bit steep as I could get a bullie from Australia or america with shipping for that, or 2 from Europe/ Russia and again from well known kennels.
Lol your not the first to be quoted that and some kennels are well known for doing it :). Bullmastiffs are more expensive in Europe as there are less of them (uk breed) and I would expect to pay double what I would in the UK but you could never stud or sell a puppy at that price here. I know of 3 kennels that would ask that you can get similar lines for less :)
