what fruit and veg are safe to feed my dog and which are not
can i feed avocardos?
- By Roxylola [gb] Date 31.10.13 18:36 UTC
No onions for sure  I think no potato peelings

Mine love carrot, apple, banana, berries for treats  Not sure about avocado.

This list might help http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/az/factsheetsanddownloads/factsheetpoisonoussubstances09.pdf

********EDIT TO ADD NO AVOCADO!  It is on the list***********

The fruit and plant of the avocardo are toxic to dogs, so no do not feed that to your dog. :-)

If you remove the seeds many fruit and veg can be given to our dogs though, some that come to mind below:

Apple, apricot, banana, blueberries, cantaloupe, mango, oranges, pear, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon,

Asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, green beans, sweet potato, spinach, lettuce (Boiling veg helps digestion also)

Also never give grapes and raisins, avoid completley, very dangerous, will cause damage to the kidneys. Lemons, limes and grapefruit can cause stomach upsets and onions, garlic and mushrooms should never been given to a dog.

Pup enjoys carrots and broccoli stem.
Checked out the list for snowdrop as she grabbed a bulb a few days ago and ran for it gobbling on the way. Doesn't say what will happen. I guess one is ok as she seems her normal annoying self.

I have been giving garlic oil 2mg capsules for nearly a decade as flea repellent and immune system boost with no ill effects, would not give raw garlic.

I think the garlic is a bit of a wives tale because it is part of the onion family but it's not layered like and onion so really it's ok to feed.

I hope so as I give the pup garlic tablets from Dorwest

Oh gosh, don't want to cause panic, it may well be an old wives tale with them being part of the onion family? I can only go on what I have been brought up with which is that garlic like the onion destroys the red blood cells, making them burst and thus have always avoided it. I think I will do some checking...........

So basically it's just a personal decision then.  I have fed it to mine and they love it (not raw but in liver cake etc) I know it is said to be good for flea control.

We've given Dorwest garlic for donkey's years, the Boxers used to have raw garlic daily with no ill effects. Many years ago a friend was concerned about it so he asked his vet, the reply was that you'd have to feed a lot more than what's in the Dorwest and similar dog products to have any problems.
