I have a little bitch of a llhasa apso called Enya, she only comes into season when we take out the holiday suitcases! It's a nightmare and this has happened three times all at different times of the year, we have tried faking going on holiday but she knows at fails to come on heat. Is it normal for some bitches to come into season only once a year? We really want her to have puppies as we love her so much we want more! Any ideas? Help please.

Carrie,
If you love your dog that much and that's your only rationale for breeding, do her a favor and don't. Breeding Llasas is not easy at all.
No breeding really is. There's a lot of things that can go wrong and there's always a risk of the bitch having serious complications or even dying. Llasas have a large head and narrow hips. They are not for the inexperienced. If you don't actively show her to know where she fits in standard built, health, and temperament, value her as a wonderful pet, not a potential mother :)

If she's unpredictable in her heat cycles --- once or three times a year, you might just consider having her spayed--especially if you want to go on vacation. :)
good luck,
toodles

Hi Carrie
I'm really glad you listened to Sara's advice, which is very good advice.
And I'm even more glad you've decided to have her spayed not least as I've just read your other post about her not being KC and the prob's you had with her breeder. It is the most sensible thing to do. :D
