Topic Other Boards / Foo / Getting Married - stress/nerves/anxiety-tablets?
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 14.10.13 13:49 UTC
Hi,
I am getting married in 3 weeks and despite telling myself I wouldnt get like this I have let myself get worked up. By nothing in particular, just an anxious feeling in general all the time. At its worst I want to cry for no reason and cant seem to sit still or think straight. Am tired but cant go to sleep as my mind is running wild with thoughts.

Just wondered if anybody would recommend any kind of herbal tablet. Need something efective and fast. Initial thoughts were 'calms tablets' or st johns wart??

Thanks in advance

A friend of mine used to swear by Quiet Life tablets when she felt a bit stressed.

Thank you. Will have a look at those. Even if they work as a placebo I need something to get my head together!!

I know this won't be a miracle cure but it's worth looking at your diet too as you don't want sugar swings, caffeine and high energy foods before bedtime to further disrupt your sleep or your mood.  A banana before bed is good for sleep but avoid acid fruits, alcohol or too much caffeine in the evening.  Slow release foods such as porridge are good for morning foods when you have a busy day ahead.  Exercise in the evening is great for managing sleep too so perhaps you and your OH could take the dogs for a late walk.

Switch off your PC, phone, iPad etc at least 80 minutes before bedtime and resist checking for texts, Facebook notifications and email before lights out!  Tidy your bedroom and put clean sheets on the bed.  Try and give yourself a small amount of personal time each day - even if it is only 20 minutes to shave your legs when the kids and dogs are sleeping!!

Give yourself wedding talk/planning time every day (if you need it) but try and keep it to a manageable timetable then put it to one side until the next day.  Use a list to carry things over and tell yourself that you are on top of it, rather than the other way around...    End that time with an activity you can get completely absorbed in like watching a DVD, putting the kids to bed, reading a book etc.

Camomile tea is good, if you like it, but any warm drink without caffeine or alcohol or too much refined sugar will also work to relax you.  Try home made honey (Manuka 15+) and fresh lemon with a drop of liquid echinacea, liquid ginseng, and liquid bee propolis - tastes great, is very soothing, and will keep colds at bay as the last you need is to fall ill before the big day :)

Good luck and congratulations x

I use Kalms when things get particularly hectic and I can feel panic attacks coming on. I find them very helpful, so certainly worth a try.

I know someone who swears by Bach Rescue Remedy, but she says that the drops are much better than the pastilles. And I know someone else who tried the night pastilles and felt wired - so avoid them !

I find Kalms or Quiet Life tablets  brilliant.   They've seen me through some very trying times.

They will also help you get a good night sleep.

Congratulations on your impending wedding :-)     Hope you have a lovely day :-)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :-) :-) 3 weeks will zoom by.

Well, I'm not surprised with the not sleeping, the planning of a wedding and constantly thinking about everything keeps most of us awake at night, generally with excitement, but also worry about everything going off just right, and things changing, it is also hard for some people to be the focus of the day. {{hug}}

Just focus on what is to do each day and try not to let your mind run wild with thoughts of the future etc....... don't go beyond tomorrow and hopefully you can stop the panic, it's easy to let your imagination run wild, just re-direct your thoughts and focus on something else instead. :-)

Tiredness alone can affect us all badly and send our emotions into overdrive, it is a good suggestion to turn everything off a good hour before bed, let your mind calm down and stop being stimulated, no coffee/tea after 6pm either. The elderly in particular who have trouble sleeping have worked out that reading in bed also takes your mind off things and helps you to sleep, worth trying. :-)

A good dog walk or jog also helps to clear the mind and helps you to relax.

You'll be fine, above all else so many people feel exactly the same.........

So happy for you. :-) x

Thank you thank you :-)
9 days to go now!

I've written out an itinery for next week (our final week before the big day) and made sure I've left a few afternoons for a really lovely dog walk. Always great to clear the head and settle the mind.

I hope you enjoy it all :) Don't go planning anything too adventurous next week - my DIL planned a dog walk with her parents up Snowdon a few days before her and my son's wedding. Her mother fell and she and my DIL had to be airlifted off to hospital .......... fortunately, despite a lot of bruising, she made her daughter's wedding :) :) Have a wonderful day :)

I want to return to the beach as its very special to us. I went there for a walk when in labour with my daughter and its where we got engaged so feels fitting to go there just before the wedding.
Will take note about accidents...although I'm so clumsy I'm just as likely to slip in the bath or fall up the stairs lol

Beach sounds good! I always find those special far from the madding crowd places help you to re calibrate and put everything in perspective ~ take a deep breath drink in the good air and memories, take another little snapshot in your mind the last one as a single lady ;)
Try to enjoy these butterfly days, it's all part and parcel and it will go quick! If I don't 'see' you before have a wonderful day! Xxx
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 24.10.13 18:47 UTC
As far away from the crowds the better for me!!
Many thanks HuskyGal xx
