We got our first CACIB this weekend (at 18 months) and are wondering how many we need. Have heard conflicting reports as apparently Ireland is treated differently? :)

For International Ch title you need

4 x CACIB under 3 different judges in 3 different countries.  The ONLY exception to the 3 different country rule is that residents of the Eire and Northern Ireland can attain all 4 CACIB's in Eire.  If you are resident in the UK or any other country you have to attain the CACIB's in 3 different countries.

Also one year and one day must elapse between winning the 1st and the 4th CACIB.  There is no upper time limit on the 4th CACIB however, it can be won several years after the 1st.

I wonder, now that travel is easier, will the FCI take away that easement and require three different countries for Irish dogs too.

It seems to me like the UK should have the same rule as we do as we all know who have imported/exported dogs that getting out of our countries is fine, it's getting back IN *via airplane* anyway that is prohibitively expensive and I don't think I want to drive from Ireland to UK to Germany or Scandinavia. The owners of my pup's littermates are able to fly in and meet each other - with the pups - in Scandinavia and France, 50 quid extra on the plane ticket. It's amazing.

Yes something needs to be done about this silly rule about having to come in Cargo.  Surely a dog can be Pet passport checked on check-in as in all other countries.

It can't be the airlines as the same airlines have no issues in  Europe/US.  when I was at JFK and Brussels there were loads of dogs going on and coming off flights.

We don't even have any airlines that will carry dogs on domestic flights here.

A flight to Scotland from Bristol is half an hour, check in time included say 3 hours, with disembarkation, rather than a long drive over probably two days for people to collect a pup from me.

I have had the people fly down to visit the pups, but have to make a huge trek to collect.  ditto Ireland.

I would think it only fair that they do.  I have friends in countries where they have to travel far greater distances to get to the requisite 3 countries than anyone in Ireland has to in order to get to France or Belgium.  When there are breeds being made into Int Ch when they are the only dog present at the CACIB show it lowers the value of the Int Ch title.

Surely if they are so het up on making all the EU countries come into line together on the rabies thing (ie UK and IE) they should bring us into line vis a vis the stupid cargo rule! :(

Exactly, someone needs to protest to the UK officials.

By easing things so far since last year, now that we are in great danger of bringing Rabies in, yet they make things difficult/prohibitively expensive for people to travel by any other means than road.
