I have a 6 month old toy poodle. She is on 3 meals a day of Royal Canin puppy food which she has little interest in. I think she is sick of it. I am giving her chicken breast and she loves this. What else is it okay to give her? I have only had her 3 weeks and her previous owners told me that tinned food gives her the runs. She is quite thin she is just about 10 in high and weighs 2.85 kilos. Thanks.
Are you very concerned about her weight? The reason I ask is that youngsters will often self adjust if they don't need/want as much food - and 6 months is a classic time for this. It's also the time at which they start training you rather than the other way around!! Lean and leggy is not uncommon in terms of growth rates and development - my gundog breed goes through this between 9 and 12 months but I suspect your breed will mature earlier and you'll see this from 6-9 months instead
I'd be inclined to drop her to 2 meals per day and be fairly strict about putting it down - and taking it up again if she doesn't eat. I'm not a huge fan of kibble but there won't be anything wrong with it and, unless you are going to switch to raw feeding I'd be cautious about adding too many toppers etc as you'll likely end up with a fuss pot :) However, that said you could look at introducing another flavour kibble. A lot of dogs seem to find fish very appealing.
A few other things you can do to stimulate the appetite are:
* warm the kibble a bit before feeding - it activates the smell. Try microwaving it for a few seconds or adding a little warm water (not boiling)
* alarm clock feeding - be strict about times and make a huge fuss about dinner when the bell goes. The excitement can ramp up the adrenalin and promote a competitive element - eat it quick or it goes away. Put the bowl down and re set the alarm for 10 minutes
* walk, play or train before feeding. This should help her work up an appetite and some dogs won't concentrate on food if they think something else might be happening instead so it helps to get those things out of the way first
*finally just check the amount of training treats you are giving and add these into her daily allowance
Hope this helps :)

I reduce my small breed down to 2 meals around 6 months, when they are having a growth spurt I increase the size of each meal
Thanks I am taking her food off her after 10 mins, as it was down constantly.I think i am worrying too much .Its like having a .new baby
