A little advice please, my toy bitch is on day 53 with her second litter she had to have a C-section with her first due to a larger pup laying in a difficult position blocking it so the other two could not come down and get things moving properly. I have been recommended by the stud owner to put the bitch on cod liver oil each meal for the week before as this helps basically oil everything up and helps the pups move down the birth canal. This is not something I have heard before, is there any truth in it?. Also I know pregnant women must not take cod liver oil as high level of vitamin A can cause problems so would this be the same with dogs. Any advice would be gratefully received.

My goodness that is such an old wives' tale - I haven't heard that one for about 40 years.  I think originally it was castor oil, but the name might have got confused over time.
