Hi all,  I'm after some advice about my young cockers coat.  She has her first show in two weeks, and will be 6 months old.  I'm really not sure what to do about her show trim.  I've asked around and got differing opinions.  It's mainly to do with her chest and front legs.  Do I thin out down to her breast bone or leave it.  Also do I thin her front legs at the front, apart from the growing feathering which I am leaving at the back of them.  She hasn't got a lot of tummy feather yet, so I will just comb down.  She has been really good and let me take out most of her puppy fluff, which I will keep doing. So advice on chest and legs if possible please. I would be grateful. Thanks

\before we took our young setter to her first show we took her to visit her breeder, who showed us exactly how we needed to tidy her up. :-)

Yes but if this is the lady who asked a while back, her breeder lives a long way away. I would err on the side of caution and not take too much off, then get to the show in good time with your thinning scissors, ready to look at how the other exhibitors have trimmed their dogs and ask for help. Hopefully they will be nice and help you, rather than giving you bad advice because they don't want to win!

Hi LucyDogs,  Yes it's me again.   Your advice sounds good to me.  Thank you

I wouldn't worry too much about the coat at this stage.

At 6 months just concentrate on the fact that this will be her first show (and yours??) and enjoy the day, there is plenty time to get the coat correct for future shows :-)
