Are there any? The lowest I can find is Burns chicken and brown rice at 7.5%. My wee dog has gone from the odd bout of pancreatitis to chronic despite being on a food that is 8% fat....all his treats are also 5% or less. The vets want him on even lower fat diet and have suggested Hills ID low fat...and it is 7.4%. BUT it is £72 for a 12kg bag which I will pay if there are no other options...I would even make it if I need to but worried it won't be balanced if I make it myself.

Thanks..:-)

If you google it, you will be able to get the Hill ID for around £50 for the 12kg bag. :)

my 9yr old has recently been put onto Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal Low Fat dry kibble - the fat content is 7%, last bag I bought (online) was just over £56 for a 12 kg bag
My vet did mention that if she didn't get on with it then to try Chappie dry kibble which also has a low fat content

I had a Toy Poodle that had this, and she was on pancreatic enzymes for life.  She had it for 6 years and I lost her just before her 17th birthday.  Are you giving this as well as low fat diet?

I was super strict, she never had treats.  Not in the way that my other dogs did.  I fed her tinned Hills ID, eventually buying on line.  But I also bought the dry Hills ID in the small bag.  This was her treat when the others had proper treats.  It worked, even for training purposes.  We did obedience and tracking together.

Her other favourite treat was cooked vegetables.  She loved her cabbage and carrots bless her.  Being super strict helped her live so long, I'm sure of it.

He is not on any enzymes yet. He had the odd flare but has been unwell for a while. He is to be on long term pain relief as well. Burns chicken and brown rice is 7.5% fat and only about £30 per 12kg...but vet wanted him even lower. I am very strict with his food since he had his first flare .

Previous vet told me he would get the enzymes because it was not an insufficiency. Will ask the new one about treatments plans though.

Thanks

A friend put her bitch with this condition on poached white fish fillets (value ones from supermarkets, usually Pollock) and Brown Rice or Potatoe with a vitamin supplement.  This managed the problem.  At other times she would feed Chappie original tinned to good effect.

Surely there is little difference between 7.4% and 7.5%?     We're talking 0.1%      - one tenth of one hundredth.    My guess is that the testing isn't done on every bag/tin of food, so is an average.

You could ring up the Burns people to discuss this. They are excellent at knowing their product and should have a vet on the payroll who could advise.    Burns was formulated by a vet :-)

I did this to discuss why Pedigree puppy food had  30 mg per Kg of copper added.   They subsequently reduced the quantity of copper in their puppy food  :-)

Just looked and Chappie dry dog food is 7% fat ;-)     http://www.petsathome.com/shop/chappie-complete-with-chicken-33154

Could be worth trying and the tins are 7% fat too :-)

Csj Old Champ is 6% fat  http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=92&idcategory=6

Autarky Autumn is 7% fat  http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=35&idcategory=9

Hope this helps

My dog had severe pancreatitis so for the last couple of years has been on, as recommended by the vet, Chappie tinned with the Chappie kibble as treats. Butchers now do low fat food as well and he loves it.

Barney used to have the occasional bout of pancreatitis and I decided to put him on a low fat diet.  The lowest fat content I found was Naturediet Fish (I didn't look at dry food).  He has now been on it since last Christmas and touch wood no more flare ups :-)  I also give him low fat milky biscuits as treats (I think they are Pedigree).

PS The smell of the food is stomach turning, especially when he has his breakfast first thing in the morning, but he loves it!
