Support Dogs is a registered assistance dog charity that trains dogs to help people with physical disabilities, epilepsy and children with autism. We are based in Sheffield but provide dogs to those in need nationwide.
We often source pet dogs looking for new homes to train to become assistance dogs and have decided to post on this forum in the hope that some breeders may have a dog that they have bred back to them through no fault of its own and would consider us as a re-homing option. We are preferably looking for Labrador/Retriever types at the moment (although we do look at other breeds as well). They would need to be between 10 and 36 months of age.
Support Dogs does not use kennels and whilst dogs are in training they will be looked after in evenings and at weekends by one of our dedicated foster carers. During the day time they will be in our training center, working with one of our experienced trainers.
There is the opportunity to be kept updated with the dog's progress both throughout its training and once it has qualified as a working assistance dog.
If you feel you have a dog looking for a new home that may be suitable (or for more information), please contact us.
