Hi All,    Does anybody know of anywhere or anyone that can give lessons or seminars on grooming and trimming for show cockers.  I am due to enter my first show next month and nearing panic mode about getting the trim correct on my 6 month old bitch.  I live in Warwickshire, so anywhere within a reasonable distance is great.  Please help.  Thanks

Is your breeder within reach? If not, she might know other people who are in your area. Otherwise you might have to do the best you can, then make friends with people at the show, most of them will be happy to help and advise, as long as you wait until they are out of the ring!

My breeder is too far away so that's not an option. There are a couple of local shows before mine, so I could go along and see if I get any joy there.

Some of the breed clubs have hosted cocker specific grooming seminars over the last 2 - 3 years.  They have been excellent but I don't know of any coming up.  There are quite a few people who show cockers in your area though so it may be worth trying some of them to see if they are willing to give you some tips. 

It would of been ideal if you had been able to get to the City of Birmingham championship show on Sunday (just gone) as it was only at Stoneleigh.  There are frequent shows at Ryton (Sports connexion) where you are likely to find a few entries from someone who can help and/or point you in the right direction.  The next big Championship closish to you will be Midland Counties on the 27th October at Stafford

Hi Jaspermum, I couldn't get to the Birmingham Championship show unfortunately, but that would have been really useful.  Its interesting that you have mentioned the Midland Counties in October, as I have planned to enter Willow in that show.  I might hopefully be able to find out some useful info whilst there.  I have watched some videos and there is a Dvd that I think will be really useful. Its by Jackie Maris-Bray and its got great reviews. I also bought a pamphlet from the Cocker Spaniel Club about grooming, so that's a help. I think its a case of getting bits of info from where I can.
