Hi Folks, I am about to change our hounds over to a raw diet, I have been able to find a wealth of information and reasurance on this forum regarding raw diet so many thanks for that. My question is we will be mating one of our girls around Oct/Nov time so she would have been on this diet for at least a month or so, should I be worried about giving her certain foods while pregnant such as raw eggs or raw fish would it be safe or should I avoid these types of food?
Many thanks

Possibly everyone is out and about or up in Scotland for SKC.
I give my dogs their normal food after mating. I don't avoid anything. I have found pregnant mums can ba picky at times though. My most recent girl decided part way through she didn't like tripe so just gave her other foods until she decided she liked it again.
Thanks newyork appreciate your reply most helpful :)
I just continue with their normal diet, likewise my last girl went off the tripe, can't say I feed raw eggs I tend to scramble them, but I find it agrees with them very well.

All mine are raw fed Moomins, the diet doesn't change during whelp unless she goes 'picky' on me :)
But there are plenty of good raw feeders with more experience that will probably come on later with good advice.
Hope all goes well

and raw feeding uk on fb a lot of experienced people. It was started by ann ridyard who breeds and feeds all her dogs on a raw diet

From memory, tripe can carry a bacteria that's harmful to a pregnant bitch, so I wouldn't feed. My bitch went off her food and would hardly eat anything just prior to whelping, and once the pups had arrived. The only thing I could get her to eat was tinned chappie - which I keep in as an easy meal after things like surgery, if I haven't had chance to do boiled rice and chicken/white fish sort of stuff.
