Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Lamb vs Chicken AG

If you feed AG have any of you noticed a difference in your dogs if you feed the chicken instead of the lamb.
I have put my dogs on the lamb as one of them has had runny bums and this seems to have sorted the problem out, however just for a change I considered offering the chicken instead but don't want to upset the tums that are now good. Is the lamb better for sensitive tums or have you found no difference when offering the chicken instead.

I have had samples however you cannot see with any certainty if this small amount will cause problems or not, and it is a financial waste to buy a big bag only to find it upsets her again.
Any advice welcome

I had always understood that lamb was a less troublesome form of protein for those dogs that might be sensitive. I fed my dogs on Burns lamb and rice in the main, but on some occasions I couldn't get hold of it and used the chicken and rice and they were fine, no difference, but they didn't have sensitive tums.

Oh, forgot to ask. Are you happy with AG as a food? I've just ordered a bag for my pup as she seems particularly fond of the AG treats and the contents of AG seem to be pretty good. Is it widely available? We have a motorhome and don't have the room to take a huge sack of food with us, so need to buy wherever we are.

Hi Jodi,
I have fed the very expensive grain free foods Orijen and Eden, but my Beagle had the runs every day. I read on here about the AG Lamb and Rice and decided to give it a try just in case the grain free was too rich for my dog ( 2 out of my 3 dogs have cast iron tums and eat anything, it is just the Beagle ) By day 2 she was improved and by day 4 she did her first perfect poo, so I have had them on this since ( I can't be messing with 2 dogs on one food and one on another so they all have the AG now ) I know I am silly but I get bored 'for them' feeding the same food day in and day out, so was considering offering the chicken for a change.
I buy online as the prices are better ( usually zoo plus )  however I think most pet shops will stock this where ever you are in the country, although it will probably cost you a little more

Rather than going for a large bag why not buy a smaller bag and give it a few days to see. If it doesn't agree just feed it to the dogs without the sensitive stomach or sell it on to friends.
Or call them up AG that is and ask for more samples.

My dogs love AG and I use AG large breed puppy for the youngsters and then onto premium which is maize free.
You could try the salmon or sensitive bags also

I know what you mean sillysue about thinking dogs may be bored with the same food day in day out. I'm beginning to wonder if feeding the same food constantly may bring on food allergies, so have decide to change foods now and again with this pup (large gundog breed). I tried her on Skinners field and trial puppy and it was as if she had ADHD. She's been hyper since yesterday, so back to James Wellbeloved and she is a bit calmer this evening.

Hi sillysue.  I feed AG and am really pleased with it.  I use both the Lamb and the Chicken versions.  I have not found any significant difference between the two in terms of condition, digestion etc.  Possibly when the dogs are on the Lamb their poo's are very slightly smaller and firmer than when they are on the chicken, but the difference is really very slight.  I am very happy with it and with all the 'output' too!  Dogs love both flavours.

I only vary the flavours according to price & what deals are available etc. - sometimes the Lamb seems considerably more expensive than the chicken.  HTH.   x
