I usually have a dirt trapper type mat by the back door to stop as much mud/wet coming into the house as possible.

However, I have two 7 month old pups who have decided they'd like to eat it!!! Does anyone have any suggestions as to an alternative? I do need to put something down as the tiles are lethal when wet, but don't want them eating whatever is put down.

I have this issue at the moment, so my kitchen mats have scalloped edges.

Have sprayed with anti chew to stop further incursions, but as it wears off she still does it, will simply have to trim them down or replace when Peni grows out of it.

That's what I've been doing! It started off with a rubber edge, which is no more, and is gradually getting smaller and smaller. :)

Anti-chew has no effect on this pair. I can honestly say they are the most destructive pups I've ever had (another reason I'll never keep 2 again!).

Just as well you can pick up the industrial ones not too dearly at shows.

I tend to buy my mats from Splendid Pets which are pretty cheap but I'd really prefer it if they'd leave them alone. I dread to think what is in their insides! I've had to take up my lovely braided rugs in the hall as they started on those as well - little s**s!

Are they retriever pups pedlee? I've got the same thing with my retriever pup. I've sprayed the edges with bitter apple and she has left it alone since, but she's been off colour over the last 24 hours, so maybe couldn't be bothered, will have to see.

Try wipeing vicks vaporub on around the edges

Yes Jodi, they are Goldie pups.

LOL, my door mat is black and waggy.  It brings the dirt in with it, lies in it, wags it's tail and sends dried dirt flying about the room making it less noticeable than if concentrated in one spot.  Works for us.  :)

I would just keep the pups confined in an area where they couldn't teach themselves bad habits.  They wouldn't have access to the door mat.  They would be either crated or under my close supervision.

Sadly it's virtually impossible to keep an eye on them every minute of every day. It only takes a minute unattended for them to get to something to chew. They have plenty of kongs and toys around but given half a chance will find something "more desirable" to chew.
