Topic Dog Boards / Showing / How much do you spend a year?

On entry fees?

How many dogs is that for?

Not including travel and hotel etc costs.

Or does it depend on your dogs/the year?

This year I will have spent (after the rest of the shows I have to enter) probably £200-300 on entry fees for my one puppy. Next year it may be slightly less as I will enter him in less classes.

So what about you?

Also do you have a rule as to how far you travel for shows? My rule is under 3 hours unless LKA or Crufts.

My entry fees are usually between £50 and £100 (usually the middle of that range) to show two dogs in breed and stakes classes, (youngsters in more than one class) and occasionally three dogs like at a club or the group championship shows, or Non CC cham- shows where entr5ies are a little cheaper.

Have always loved doing the stakes classes, but am more an more re-considering as the second class fees are getting too much to enter on the chance of being able (due to judging clashes) or wanting to go in them (if a long wait after other judging complete).  Have to consider the driver (husband).

I like you limit distance to around 3 hours driving time, and attend some dozen shows a year.

Have cut out most Open shows (to save money for championship shows), other than the Nordic and club Open shwo when in my catchment area.

Golly, do I really want to work it out - No.

Three hours travelling time each way only gets us as far south as Edinburgh. Most Ch shows are at least 8 hours each way. We go to as many Ch shows as we can but now can no longer go to Malvern or further south on a "there and back" in one day so have to take the caravan and go to 2 Ch shows close together in date.

We've started going to more open shows up here, mostly without a breed class, back to NSC again, but can't complain as one of our Frenchies was Res Best in Show on Sunday.

I enter most championship shows at around £50-90 and seldom can be bothered to go.
I tell my husband about how much fuel I save if I wake up and decide to stay in bed.

Have no idea how much I've spent this year, but am currently showing 2 dogs at Ch shows I do enter more at club Ch and open shows

Generally a max of 4hrs travel for a Ch show as I have to be able to travel there and back on the same day, don't really go more than 1.5 hours for an open show unless its a club show

For 3 dogs plus motorhome and not including fuel a years showing costs me £2300, bare in mind we only have 16cc shows a year so that lessens my amount a little, however I don't drink or go out so it doesn't worry me too much. I don't do many open shows as we have very few classes.

When I first got Breeders Assistant I decided I would use the accounting section to keep track of what I was spending on the dogs. I very quickly abandoned it as It got scary far to quickly. Along with many others I am definitely happier not knowing how much my dogs cost me.
