Hi, I have just joined here.

My name is Kirstie and I live in Scotland, currently owned by 1 rescue Border collie who is about 14 yrs old, 5 cats, 14 mice, 1 rat and 3 horses. This Sunday we are getting a stunning 6 month old Alaskan Malamute dog.

He is our first Mal but not the first we have dealt with, my brother in law has a lovely Mal dog who is 7 now, they have had him from a pup and we have spent a lot of time with him and know exactly what Mals can do etc.

They are a world apart from a collie, but I am sure you are all set for a culture change :)

Have you got somewhere safe to keep your small furries where Mally will not have access? Many many many Malamute have killed the family small pets, it's in their nature sadly, I'd recommend keeping them well apart, same with your cats at least initially as there have been many incidents of Mals killing the family cats, even when previously they have got on well with them, so do be sure your cats have an escape route at all times.

My best piece of Malamute owner advice is CRATE train and dog training club :)
