Hi all,

I've always been intrigued with whether when a breeder advertised their puppies as 'will always take them back'  do they give the buyer their money back? or part money back? does it depend on the age of the dog?

I've just read an advert where the breeder is offering a 14 day guarantee (8wk old pups) if there is ANY problem with the puppy - and full money back regardless of reason.  I wonder if this might make someone buy a puppy whilst not being fully committed, or fill the new buyer with confidence and make them more likely to take a chance and buy a pup in the knowledge that if it didn't work out it could be returned?

Ivwill only give them full money back uf they are returned within a small timescale or if there's a health issue that wasn't the owners fault. Years ago my house was broken into and one of my girls was 5 weeks pregnant. Two of the pups started showing neurological problems at 5 months and both vets felt that injury to the mother whilst pregnant could have been a major cause. Sadly they both had to bd pts at around 2 years. One of the owners asked fir another puppy from me which of course I gave to them 9 years later he is still fit and healthy and was from the same mum.

It definitely depends on the age of the dog, as well as the breed. Some breeds are worth as much at 8 months as at 8 weeks, others are more or less worthless at 6 months i.e. it would not be possible to rehome the dog and get any money back. Then you have to bear in mind that it isn't always possible to find a new home, for whatever reason. The dog could be too old or have problems of whatever sort etc, and so it ends up staying with the breeder for life. But a good breeder will always agree to have a dog back whether it is at 10 week or 10 years or even more.
