Topic Dog Boards / Showing / JW points

When gaining points for a junior warrant in open show, do at least 3 dogs have to be entered in your class, if there is less than three turn up on the day and you win your class do your points still count.

There have to be 3 or more present in the class when you win for you to claim the point(s)

Thanks ridgielover I thought that was the case but just needed to confirm.

It makes it so hard to get the open show points needed for a JW. My lad got the champ show points but, despite winning a Hound Group 3 and a Best Puppy in Breed and a BOS at open shows he didn't get any points :(

It is even harder in my breed as we seldom get Puppy or Junior classes at Open shows just PG & O.  And when my girl got hers  you had to get 10 open show points minimum and we were up against Foot & Mouth that year too!

You can get 1 point for BOB if there were three dogs present in all classes e.g. 1 PG 2 O and you win Open and beat the PG for BOB.

I know how hard it is, my boy missed his by 3 points! Yet completed his ShCM in 4 shows!

My first champion bitch had 40+ points based on three dogs per class, but only 6 of the 10 required Open show points.

We hardly ever get a JW winner in our breed.

I was under the impression that 3 have to be entered but if they don't turn up on the day you still get the point as many people were trying to prevent others from gaining points so withdrew at the last minute, has it changed back again then?
- By Goldmali Date 16.07.13 09:07 UTC
I don't know the rules, have never bothered as in my breed there is no way you can gain a JW -it has never happened, apart from during the few years in the 90s when all BSDs counted as one and were in the same ring. But surely if it was the number on PAPER that counted, then all anyone had to do would be to enter more dogs of their own and only bringing the one to the show you want the points for?!

Just read the form as was sure you had to have three PRESENT:

Junior Warrant points cannot be claimed from classes or for awards with less than three dogs of the breed present. In assessing the number of dogs present in each class, exhibitors may count a dog as having been present in a class provided it was entered in that class and was present in its first class for the breed at that Show.

Think you must have been thinking bout people who withdrawal from the next class Sue?
- By suejaw Date 16.07.13 11:44 UTC
No it must if changed because it was that and I questioned a few people on how they gained their points, they went on numbers entered not present because even for a first class people would withdraw to prevent others gaining a point so the KC changed it.
People have claimed and got points for being the only one in the class despite a reasonable entry, if not present it didn't make a difference...
Glad it's changed as many dogs were getting their JW so readily it was a joke!

I have always understood the 3 in class rule Sue - I didn't think it had changed - not that I have ever been anywhere near worrying about jw points - whenever Boo won his class only had 2 in his class!  Typically!

The information I looked at on the KC site  was dated January 2010.
- By rachelsetters Date 16.07.13 12:25 UTC
I am not sure how rigorous checking numbers present  in classes is for JW?  If they did do numbers entered they have gained points incorrectly since 2010 or perhaps choosing to read how they wanted to read it?

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2891/

It clearly states points can not be claimed if less than three PRESENT though!
- By suejaw Date 16.07.13 19:46 UTC
Well we clearly have a lot of cheaters on our hands then :-(
- By ChristineW Date 16.07.13 22:20 UTC
It was 3 present in a class when Mia got hers and that was in 2001.  Because she also suffered from those that entered then never materialised and I couldn't claim those.

If a dog withdraw as from subsequent competition but was in it's first class then it can be counted as being there.

Unfortunately I have had several classes where the absentees mean I can't get points (pretty typical with puppy/Junior bitches, due to seasons).

We have managed 14 points with Peni, 2 points at open level, so still need one more which I have little chance of getting.

She has at 13 months, 9 class wins at Open/Non CC level, 13 class wins at Champ shows with CC's.
