I have an 8 month old westie who is such a lovely happy little chap, I have always had bitches but this time a boy, he keeps trying to mount my 10 year old westie, she was spayed years ago, how do I handle the situation, do I ignore it and let her tell him off or do I tell him, or should I have him neutered, he has a good stripping coat and I worry if he was done it might change. Thanks

At 8 months he is like a human male teenager.  Testosterone filled!  I never tell my boys off for trying it on with one of  my bitches.  Even when I have no intention of them being used for breeding.  I distract them usually saying silly boy, and offering a toy.  You are right that the bitches are good at putting males in their place!

As she is spayed I personally wouldn't even consider having him castrated.  Just be patient while he goes through his "wild oats" stage!  :-)

Humping is also a normal canine play style, so, it may not be what you think it is, just over excitement.

Distraction is the answer - a couple of my boys get a bit frisky with each other !  certainly no intention of neutering as they are shown and coats would also go to pot - I just distract them with play as best I can.
