Topic Dog Boards / General / How much and often should my 8 wk cocker sleep?
- By barneybear [gb] Date 03.07.13 20:58 UTC
I no theres no hard and fast rule but im wondering if his grumpy and snappy behaviour is down to being tired? I think he sleeps alot.
Typical day - He gets up at 7am and is up ti 8.30am. Most of this is play pen time due to getting kids ready. Then he gets up between 10.30-11am till 12-12.30pm. Then he'll sleep for about 2 hrs then he'll be up again for about 1.5hrs then will sleep for about 1.5 hrs then up again for about 1.5hrs then sleep for about an hour then from 8-10pm he'll ay and doze. We go to be at 10pm and he'll wake me twice for a wee in the nite altho soes also wee on his paper.
So how does that sound, enough sleep or not enough?
Thanks x

Just out of curiosity, I googled and found this, from the Dog's Trust -

When do you feed him?

I always feed pups just before they sleep.  This means that they aren't running around on a full tum and get a good sleep too as they have a nice full tum :-)

They also poo just after a meal, or when they wake up, so that's predictable too ;-)

I still feed the adults their main meal later in the day, so they aren't running about on a full tum,  and can sleep through the night without feeling hungry.

Some pups will play for too long and get over tired, usually signalled by getting bitey and over- excited, just like young children/babies.
