Since my boston is producing milk for her pups and nursing (c-section and spay) I was wondering if there is a chance of her drying up at all on them since she is spayed? It did take a bit for her milk to come down but is doing good now. Will she just keep filling up more for them?

i had read that doing the 2 together could prevent milk coming in-but as its come in i doubt it would cause a problem now, unless you find it wont go away again :)

Thanks for the reply. Her milk is now coming in really good, all pups are nursing great. The vet gave her a diluted nasal spray of oxytosin just one swab in each nostril, and it has worked great. She diluted it and gave it to her that way because she said the shot would be to much.

When Purdey (our oldest lab girl) had to have an emergency hysterectomy (2 retained puppies after 2 days with pymetra setting in) 7 years ago, we were fully prepared to have to hand rear her 12 puppies. In order to ease the burden, our daughter took 4 puppies, leaving us with 8 to bottle feed at home. The day after the op, when Purdey was home, very dopy, we had the pups in a cat basket next to her bed. When I started feeding at 2.a.m., she was out of the anaesthetic, and was attempting to climb into the basket with the pups - so as I fed one, I gave it to her to clean up. By 10.pm that evening, she was suckling 4 of the pups, the next day she was suckling all 8, and by the weekend, we reunited the whole family! They all did very well, Purdey recovered well - and I learned then, that even if a bitch has had 12 live puppies and seems to be doing well - I will still get her checked over!

We did take her to the vet the next day for the nasel swab, and my vet looked her over. She was really happy with the stitches, they are holding nice (all in the inside so puppies don't get their nails caught on them) you can't even really tell she has any, and no irritation.
She was very dopy to after.
