Just an update to the lung/chest problems with my little rescue Beagle.
She has had a full examination and xray under anaesthetic. She has a few black patches on her lungs  and swollen lymph glands which all point to lung worm. She also has a lot of pus in her throat. Swabs have been taken and sent off for a culture test.
In the meantime she has finished her Panacure daily wormer so hopefully the lungworm has been stopped and should not get any worse, and she will have more every month to stop re-infestation.
I have today had the swab test report back and it seems she has 2 bacterial infections ( she does't do things by half)
1. Pasteurella
2. Pseudomonas - which I understand is a nasty one in the throat.
As these bacteria are resistant to a lot of antibiotics we now know which one she must have to treat them both and has started on both of these. She is still a little chesty but is improving daily.
I have googled these bacteria but they do not mean much to me. If anyone has any knowledge of them I would be very interested.

Oh your poor girl, what a lot she's had to deal with all at once. Fingers crossed all will be well now. Now it is many years since I worked as a vet nurse, but one thing which we did do back then on pretty much a daily basis was take swabs from throats, and it was pasteurella and pseudomonas that were the two common bacteria found -although I cannot recall ever seeing both together. The one thing I clearly remember about pseudomonas is being told by the vet to be careful as it could spread, so had to always be extra careful with washing hands etc.

No experience of Pasteurella but Zuma has had a Pseudomonas infection - on his nose! - 3 times, when they did swabs the only effective anti-b was Marbocyl (expensive) and he had them for 52 days 1st time, 24 days 2nd time and 34 days last time. He had swabs after the visible signs had gone to make sure it was cleared.
He also has Advocate spot on regularly as he had very mild lungworm 2 yrs ago.

I don't have any experience of anything like this.  But wanted to say that I hope she continues to improve.  What a headache for you!

Ditto the advice you've had about pseudomonas - it is easy to cross infect so be vigilant about hand washing.  Get some Hibiscrub for dog hands :)  Be really careful when touching mucous membranes such as ears, eyes, nose etc and change her water frequently.  Wash feeding bowls in a good disinfectant, with hot water, and be extra cautious if she is coughing or sneezing to wipe up as best you can.

Fingers crossed you can hit it hard and fast but do remember to complete the course of AB's and don't miss any.  Both my dogs have had pseudomonas in their ears and it's a right bugger to shift

Many thanks all for the advice. My vet was surprised to find this in her throat as she explained this is not the usual place to find it. I really wonder what happened to her in her 'past life' if it can be called 'life' I think it was more like survival, especially when she was abandoned and had to eat/drink whatever she could find.

The worry is that before this was diagnosed she was living in close proximity with my other dogs, sharing a water bowl. I felt confident that they were up to date with kennel cough nasal sprays ( this is when we thought it was to do with KC) but now I am watching them all like a hawk.

Fingers crossed they are ALL going to be ok.
