Can anyone please tell me are show lab puppies better than working ones? What if both parents are show labs? How much walks will they need etc, is it really hard work? I'm looking for a good breeder if anyone could recommend would very much appreciate your thoughts. Also which would be better male or female? Please don't judge

No, not better just different. If you are wanting a pet then a show line may be best particularly with the Liver colour if what most say about them being hyper is to be believed. Exercise is about the same as required for any dog of a similar size and not sure what you mean by is it really hard work?

As to a breeder you can look on this site or the Kennel Club one for breeders or ask at one or more of the breed clubs.

'Better' is a relative term; labs from show lines tend to be heavier-built and not as demanding of exercise than those from working lines, but they still will need a couple of hours exercise daily when adults, broken into a couple of walks rather than one long one. I think if you're set on getting a liver/chocolate one then you'll find it very difficult to get a working-bred one because the colour isn't at all popular amongst the people who work their labs, as they have the reputation of being the most difficult to train!

And all puppies are hard work if you want a well-behaved dog!

By hard work I mean waking up very early toilet training etc, do they need quite time for a few hours in separate room? Would that be ok. As if it gets use to being around people at home all the time then he/she might get upset when left alone sometimes for a short period in the day.

Another thing is I have seen some pups who lick everyone they see and then there's some who don't. What would be the best start to train them as to not lick the face and jumping on others? Not everyone likes a big heavy dog jumping on them lol! Or licking them.

Toilet trtaining all puppies is hard work; they have very small bladders and can't hold on for very long during the day - an hour or two at most. At night they can last 3 or 4 hours.

It's really good that you're thinking about the practicalities of a puppy and not just buying into the 'cute' idea, because reality can be a very rude awakening! It might be sensible to get a copy of 'The Perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey (perhaps borrow it from your library?); it'll give you a good idea of what you'll need to do.

Well it is usual to train a puppy to suit your life style not the other way round but puppies are like babies and some consideration needs to be given the their stage of growth. No you don't have to get up at 6 if you choose not to but you will have to clean up when you do get up but then you may well have to do that if you get up at 6. Puppies do not have full (reliable) control until they are about 6 months. Never found it necessary to shut a pup away, they need company but you can train them to be left by starting with a few minutes and slowly work up to a few hours but being left should not be a regular thing if they are a lone dog.

I have both types and to be honest all my girls and boy have been totally different in character, activity  and drive levels.

I all say however that the working types are more driven and show more natural tendencies for being able to search and retrieve.

They are perhaps more aloof as well when out but inside are more Velcro like.

However as puppies they are all the same and require as much hard work in the first 18 months whether working or show types.

It is difficult to say which I prefer.

The most important thing is do research and select and be selected by a very good breeder who does full health tests but also looks at good temperaments especially in working types. You want somebody who asks as much about you and you life as you should be asking them.

LOL, In Canada show Lab puppies are definitely better for the conformation show ring.  Generalizations would have it that show bred Labs (the ones bred to look as the standard says they should) are easier going and the field bred types are high energy dogs needing lots of exercise.  But my show bred boy, who will never see a conformation show ring, is a high energy dog.  I knew what I was getting into and he's not my first dog.   He takes a lot of exercise and a daily dose of mental work, ie. training, is enjoyed by him and complements his physical needs.  A good breeder here will steer you toward the puppy most suitable for your knowledge, experience and what you want to do with the dog. 

I've heard generalizations of male versus female too.  One way it's been put is the boys are all Love you, Love you.  And the girls are all Love ME, Love Me.  So far all my boys and girls have been typical boys.  :)

Put the Affix into a search engine and it came up with nothing so can't help it would appear that they do not show and if they work they do not do any thing competitive and neither do any of the people who have bought pups from them.

Strange that not a single hit from Google so I guessed that the dogs were not shown - seems they are but for some reason not mentioned on line.
