Hi I have recently bought a staffy mix pup but my 11 year old jack russel tries to attack her when i put her down on the floor. I have pput them down outside and they are ok . Its just when in the garden and my house. Any help would be much appriecated. Also how long roughly will it take for them to get along as i am worried.
Thanks :-)

The older dog will quite naturally try to teach the uppity youngster some canine manners.  Perfectly normal.  Don't forget to ensure the older dog can get away from the pup when it wants time out.

I have always found that it take 10 days or so for the males to be comfortable with a puppy and most run away but if they do approach in a way I think threatening I tell the offender to leave and they soon seem to understand that the pup is yours and therefore not to be attacked.

How old was the puppy when you started to introduce the her, could be a problem with the breeds behind your older dog or he could be in pain so would advise a trip to the vet with him and perhaps some blood tests.

If it's only 5 days I wouldn't worry too much.  If it's any consolation, my first Bearded Collie hid behind the settee and lived there for 2 weeks when I brought home a 2nd Beardie.  Give them time.  :-)

If he is ok with her away from home and he doesn't generally have aggression problems with strange dogs I think there is a reasonable chance they will settle down together. I would keep taking them out to a neutral area (don't walk the pup too far, carry her) and just let him get used to her being around without forcing the issue. how are you keeping them apart at home ATM? make sure he can easily get away from her for peace and quiet, maybe crate her and leave him loose for a while, or use baby gates so he can see her but not hurt her.
If he only sees her with you holding her in your arms above his head that won't be helping, you obviously have to keep her safe but from his point of view this little intruder is towering over him and showing no respect and probably needs putting in her place! (and terriers are generally really good at that! ) one thing though is that as soon as she is vaccinated and ready to go out and about do make sure she meets some good natured adult dogs, with a staffy mix it is extra important that she grows up confident and friendly so you don't want her starting to think that all other dogs are nasty and risk spoiling her temperament in the future.
good luck!
