Hi all,
I would like to share my mastitis experience in the hope that it may help somebody whose bitch is suffering or anyone with an expected litter may find the info useful
I have had a lot of helpful advice from this forum and learnt a lot and hope I can put something back that may help others,
Two years ago my bitch had a litter of 12 and developed very acute, bacterial mastitis. It came up very suddenly and the gland burst. What a mess. The bitch had to stay in the vets on a drip to get the anti biotics into her ,she rallied, I bought her home only for it to flare up in another gland and abcess again. We got through it but it was awful and I was very against having another litter from her.
After a lot of talks with my vet they assured me it was probably down to the large litter, cracked nipples and I would be very unlucky to see it again. She is a super bitch, fantastic worker and we were so keen to have a pup from her we have had another litter from her...now 20 days old.
Well, sod it it happened again ,the hard, red gland, her getting grumpy with pups which is very unlike her....I was worried sick.
As well as doing all the usual of warm flannels, massage, cabbage leaves I took advice from ainsworth Homeopathic pharmacy. On their advice I gave her Belladonna 200c and Phytollacca 200c alternately 15 minutes apart until improvement, then 3 times a day until completely cleared...the results were amazing! Swelling gone, heat gone, bitch comfortable ...I really feel like we dodged a bullet!!
This is in no way a brag...I hope the info may help somebody faced with battling mastitis,i am sure it stopped it in its tracks and will always keep these in stock for any future litters,
Ali
Thanks from me to, I have noted down the details, hope it never happens but I will certainly make sure I am prepared just in case.
Glad to hear your girl is doing well x
