Just back from a walk in the forest with a few of my guys and have at last heard a cuckoo! The sun is shining here in East Sussex. Has Spring finally arrived ?

On the downside the car park was full of families having barbecues and picnics -had a bit of a struggle controlling doggies  -failed with one  -with all the delicious smells around. 

I got woken up by the cuckoo singing at 4.30 this morning ! Blumin noisy bird !

We've had one here in Somerset for 3 weeks now and he starts early in the morning too. :)

I thought I heard one twice this morning - if it was it will be the first time for many many years around here.  I even saw one in the flying  into the woods - oh must be 30 years ago now.  Showing my age!  Haven't seen any house martins around here for years either - are the swallows back yet?  Usually get a family of those - how the number of different species has dwindled.  Got a thrill hearing a thrush sing last night - and I saw a house sparrow on my fence. 

Haven't hear a Cuckoo for years. House martins - could be swallows find telling them apart difficult- have been here for sometime, but sadly don't nest on our house.

Heard my first cuckoo of the year last night at 10pm :-) I don't actually recall hearing any last year, so very pleased to hear this one.

Only foxes calling around here.

At 4am this morning cuckoo was shouting and Mr and Mrs Fox were playing like puppies out the back. :)

Heard a cuckoo, up here at the foot of the Sidlaws, about 3 weeks ago.  

Heard them this morning....

I heard the first one of the year yesterday - I was away in Essex but not heard any here where I live for the last couple of years.

We've had cuckoos for a good few weeks now up in the yarrow Valley, so much so there was a birdwatcher out every day for a week from 7.30am to 10ish at night trying to take photos. He did get some good ones but we started walking dogs in a different direction when we saw his car as we were getting overdosed on cuckoo fact and figures!!!
It is nice to hear them though, even the dogs stop for a listen.
