I'm at the end of my tether today, my boy has it in his head(I reckon) that my girl is in full season, over the past few days he's behaving as if she is.
Trying to hump her, whining away, not eating, easily aroused by the sight of her
He's now just turned his attentions to me and started destroying things in the house, only did this last time she was in season..
He's never been used, nor will be and got the implant back in him yesterday.
What can I do bearing in mind she is not in season, she maybe have a phantom but not showing any viable signs...
It's driving me and them scatty!!

Well I would think that either there is a bitch in the area that is in season or that your bitch has some sort of infection - have your checked her temperature?
It is possible he have picked up the scent whilst walking but adult dogs do not usually get it that wrong he must think there is something in his area.

Has this started since the implant? I never had it have this effect but it is possible - I take it you do not have an infection?
Must be something in the air Sue, my old boy (11) keeps trying to get randy with one of mine, and she's not in season, hasn't paid any attention to the others at all, but as soon as he sees her, he gets that look in his eyes!! lol Pretty sure she's not got any infection, but I can well sympathise x

I really don't think mine has any infection either, nothing has changed she is still the nutter she always has been ;-)
He started to get interested on the trip to Scotland... I did think maybe her anal glands but these are fine..
As for an in season bitch in the area, highly possible as nearly every home around here houses a dog
Maybe just hormones.... I have them split as its easier x
What about her anal glands have you checked to see if they need emptying? This can also cause rampant humping and interest. :-)
As already said could be a bitch in season in your area and he is just focussing all of his attention on the only bitch available with him being immature.
It will stop soon enough, where-ever the scent is coming from. :-)
I had this with one of mine some years ago. Her son was getting obsessed with her and trying to hump her. It took ages before we worked out that she had a nailbed infection.
And one of my puppy buyers mentioned that she was having similar trouble with her two (entire male of 10 and neutered bitch of 6). I suggested anal gland problems and it turned out that this was the problem.

I have checked her anal glands and they are fine.
I'm just hoping this is a passing few days, currently i'm keeping them apart and him away from me as best I can as he has turned his desires on me, the hoover(again) and even a tape measure

Ahhh, it was your trip to Scotland....All of mine are in season and they are VERY attractive ladies!lol
My girls gets really bad anal glands which makes my cousins dog randy as hell. That's how I know she needs them emptied!

It's still going on and in at the end of my tether now. I've go the totally split as he's mounted her and tried to mate her; she's not interested and gone beserk and I'm not risking anything.
He is worse now than when she was in season!!
It's not her anal glands or an infection but put her on ab's in case: not a phantom or an outwardly showing one either...
I can't do this for much longer, seriously it's too much.. It'll be weeks before his implant starts to take effect too..
Come on peeps must be some more ideas?
I can't live with having two parted dogs, done it before for a totally different situation and can't do it again

Just had my BMD castrated at 7 1/2 he was still trying it on with anything that moved when we were out somewhere different, can't imagine what it's like under your own roof!!!
By suejaw
Date 29.05.13 18:01 UTC
Never been a problem until now, I was going to get him castrated but its cheaper doing Suprelorin and them don't have the GA risk...

The implant usually takes about two weeks to take effect. Can anyone board your boy for a week or so? I agree, having to live with parted dogs is quite an undertaking, but at least it wouldn't be for too long, if that's what you end up doing. Good luck.
i'm keeping them apart and him away from me as best I can as he has turned his desires on me, the hoover(again) and even a tape measure
Oh boy, no wonder you are at your wits end, let's hope the suprelorin starts working soon, men in comedy sketches always pour cold water down their pants or have a cold shower. :-D
Maybe if it wouldn't cause a bad reaction (you know your dog) you could perhaps spray his privates with cold water if he is getting that rampant with things, I have no idea if it would work, I'd probably be inclined to try to re-focus him on a game or something but I guess it depends on how frequent he is at it, once or twice a day or if he is at it every half hour. :-(

How old is your boy Suejaw?
Don't forget Suprelorin works by massively increasing the testosterone in the body which then reacts by shutting down testosterone production. If your boy has just had an implant he will be full of testosterone at the moment which is obviously why he is being such a pain in the neck. The level of testosterone should soon start to drop and he should go back to being his normal self instead of a rampant teenager.
When one of my boys had the implant a couple of years ago he went back to wanting to beat up other male dogs and mount any passing females, the same as he did when he was a teenage delinquent. Once the levels dropped again he was fine.
Don't forget to cut your boys food down as it has the same effect as real castration and the dogs can put on a lot of weight. Mine did even though I cut his food right down and he only lost the weight again when the implant wore off.

I know it's going to take a while for the implant to kick in and we'll get a surge of hormones before that, however this started before I gave it to him and she's not in season...
My girl growls at him when he comes near and they still see each other when passing their crates in turn.
He's given up on me now but any opportunity he will take with my girl.
Not actually had her around other males to see their reaction as to whether its her or him!

Date 29.05.13 19:07 UTC
I've hosed down my boy when he's stepped near my girl before I split them up when I had them under constant supervision, he hates water but didn't deter him..
As for gaining weight he did the last time he was on it and he needs to put on some as he's lost about 10kg in the past 18mnths :-/

Nova,
Sorry he's a BMD and turned 6 last month!
By Nova
Date 29.05.13 21:19 UTC

Thanks Suejaw, how long has this been going on? Sorry I am hoping you will say something that will trigger something deep in what is left of my brain. Oh one other thing what is the average live span of a BMD?
By suejaw
Date 29.05.13 21:27 UTC
This started I would say in Scotland, SKC, he was interested with some sniffing and licking but they were caged together in the van without any issues.
Since getting back he's got progressively worse in his desires.
He was also in the van with 3 other bitches and another entire male and then a puppy on the way home.
Well they do say once they reach 6 they are on borrowed time, however many reach 10 now, his father recently passed away. His mother I believe is still with us.. The longevity isn't too bad in his lines..
The vets wasn't overly worried about his weight but then I wonder how often they are used to porkers in comparison? I have a month to try and feed him up if not we are back for tests to cover thyroid problems

It is possible there is more going on with him than is obvious, at his age he may have had a brief interruption of blood to his brain and that has caused some damage, like a stroke in humans, only in his case he is now fixated on sex. Have you talked this over with your vet, snatching at straws really - beginning to think, if there is nothing wrong with your bitch there may be something amiss with the male and it would seem this may well be a problem with the brain telling his body there is a bitch in season. One amuses and hopes that once the implant kicks in it will cure the problem but if it is something other than hormones causing this I am not at all sure what I can offer except to suggest that you vet may know of a specialist you could contact for information.
Could be that female hormones would help but it is a huge step to take and if you can afford it I would be asking the vet first to look into sending you and your dog to someone who may be able to help.
Have you actually had anyone who has had this problem with their dogs, I never had, well not beyond puberty. Would you say on balance the problem is getting worse, the same or slowly improving? Awful situation to be in there is nothing worse to put up with and the poor dog must be very miserable, as well not only having uncontrollable desire but being in your bad books as well - poor you - poor dog. Sorry that nothing I have come across seems to fit with this case but you can't be the first one to be suffering, it is sad you are having so much problem getting any information.

Thanks Jackie, I'm going to see a friend with some male dogs and see how they react to her first before I go further. Hopefully doing that this weekend..
I really hope it sorts itself out soon, I really do!

There is nothing so exhausting as a dog who thinks his services are needed - you have my sympathy - there must be an answer but as you say you are not sure if it is even the dog or the bitch that has the problem so think you plan to see which animal has the problem is the best start so at least you know which one to work on. The usual answer is the bitch but I do not doubt the male can get something go wrong somewhere that would cause this. Is it just your bitch or do other bitches attract his attention, mind you if he is already excited over his own bitch this could carry over so even more reason to check out the bitch.

I've booked her back in for the vets tomorrow.
I'm struggling as to keep them apart which I am and doing different walks being that I have a broken toe and can't walk very well or very far :-/

Well vets said no infection and no ab's. he did say prob hormonal and maybe try galastop, I'm not wanting to really for the cost.. I hadn't cleared out her anal glands fully either.
Out my male on a lead to see and she wanted to hump him and his head and was just a flirty dirty cow :-/

I met up with a good friend and her BMD bitch who my boy is besotted with and she's literally finished her season, e sniffed her and played a bit and then nothing! Wasn't interested, got home and he whined for my girl :-/

This is so frustrating for you - and the dog - it would seem the problem lays with your bitch or his perception of your bitch. Did the vet make any suggestion at all, there may be someone who you could talk to that is a specialist in this type of problem.

We'll see tomorrow as hoping to get her to see Rachel's boys and see how they react to her being that they are entire and not normally randy buggers with her. fingers crossed!!!
By Nova
Date 31.05.13 20:12 UTC

Have they been used at all, I ask as a mature dog that has been used will normally know when a bitch is ready and wait their time so if they have they may not react. That is a point, has your dog been used?
By suejaw
Date 31.05.13 20:16 UTC
Good point, no mine hasn't been used and no they haven't been used at this time either. Will see if the breeder is around and if I can get her to see her uncle who has been used to see what he thinks, my only option off the top of my head right now!!

Had you considered giving the bitch chlorophyll tablets (bitch deodorant tablets as made by Johnson's and Sherley's).
These are meant to reduce season and other body odours. maybe they might just change things enough to make a difference, and they certainly will do not harm and are considered a healthy supplement anyway.
They don't cost much either, so worth a try.

Can I buy these from health food shops or is it just canine retailers online so somewhere?
Willing to try anything like this :-)
She's had raspberry leaf tea in her dinner and also evening primrose

We met the boys, all 4 of them and none battered an eyelid at her, a few sniffs and they carried on.. 4 entires males and nothing...
Makes me really think its my boy now who has an issue, a big issue, lol
> Can I buy these from health food shops
Most likely the sherleys and Johnsons from Pet shops, in larger quatities you can by chlorophyll in health food shops.

I bet it's just because his implant is so recent. It's something I can remember one of ours doing directly after having the Suprelorin. I even mentioned it to our vet once (when I was there for something else). He said it wasn't unusual.
Your boy's hormones should settle down within a couple of weeks, it's just bad luck that your bitch is in his vicinity while he is having this surge.
Good luck!
By suejaw
Date 01.06.13 22:25 UTC
It started before the implant was given, I decided to give him this in the hope it calms him down and I don't have this again, lol.
Its normally a few weeks in before the surge starts and then subsides on him as have used it before..
I need all the luck in the world with him right now, he is being a right pain...
By Esme
Date 02.06.13 09:02 UTC

Well I suppose you could always get him 'done', that should put paid to his antics! But sometimes that causes other issues - change in temperament, resulting place in pecking order etc.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this lovely sunny day today without too much hassle!

Beautiful day today wasn't it.
Took my girl to Southern Counties and no issues there either, I'm glad to report!!! Lol :-)

Well I don't think it's the weather but glad to report within 24hrs he's suddenly stopped being interested in her, in actual fact she is trying to hump him and be a complete devil and he's trying to run away and his face is almost can't you get this thing away from me!!! Lol
At least we have some form of harmony now ;-)
