Hi I have a nearly 12 year old GSP girl. She has been taking glucosamine and chondroitin (Dorwest) recommended by vet, for about four years. Recently she has become a little stiff on her hind legs ...so on suggestions from  other doggy friends I started giving her Green Lipped Mussel. Just 500grms per day. After 5 days she started to have runny poos with a lot of flatulence ...She has been drinking water in the local park which when the weather is drier has caused diarrhea before..so maybe this is the problem!
What I'm inquiring  about is whether anyone has found that giving Green Lipped Mussel to their dog has caused to have this problem.. She is otherwise very well and active..even hungry! thanks.

No give my crew it without any problems.

I used to give it to my collie and she had no negative side effects.

I know I'm probably being daft, but you do mean 500 mg, don't you!?  If she's getting 500 grams, I have no doubt that could be the cause of her flatulence!!

I have given this to my dogs previously with no problems whatsoever, but various other supplements have given them dicky tummies.

I had a dog that reacted to green lipped mussel with tummy upset. ..
she was allergic to fish also which brought the same reaction.
So she only had glucosamine which had a great effect, i usually give both together to oldies

Hi. Yes I do mean 500mg (1 capsule) I haven't given her any supplements for a few days now and this morning she is back to her old self! No more icky poo either! I think I might start the G L mussel again next week... See how it goes. Thanks.

Have you tried upping the dosage of the glucosamine & chronidition?

All 3 of us take a pill every morning 2 Boston terriers & a Dane cross we take
extra strength 900mg yes have brought bottle into the vets b4 I started them on it.
We 1st started with 500 mg and the Boston's were to have 2 a day so I went with the
900mg & it seems to work a charm.

Reason why I started was because my one Boston would get up from laying & would cry every time
he stood up to walk, move which ever. Took him to the vet & asked about G & C and she said to give it a try
but will take a bit b4 it starts working- if nothing in about 6-8 weeks come back. After about 6 weeks I noticed
a huge difference he started moving around like nothing was wrong. He is now 13 1/2 years old blind as a bat
but loving life still. I even take him out for walks which he loves- funny get the leash on him & he's dragging me
like he can see again. I'm just keeping him from walking into things and telling him up when we come to a step.
Take the leash off and well he's blind lol funny how that changes him.
