Am I right in thinking that corgis tails never go over there backs like a vallhunds do?
Asking as I've never seen one at shows or pics of any corgi who's does but I've been looking at a company that make sliver dog charms and in the list of breeds they currently do they have corgi and its tail goes over its back and its legs don't seem as short as a lot of the corgi I've seen so I'm wondering it the actually used images of vallhunds when they made it by mistake.

No, corgi tails
can be carried over the back, even thoughthe standard calls for he undocked tail to be "set in line with topline. Natural carriage above topline when moving or alert."

You are correct both types have tails that in line with the spine and carried down the Pembroke can be born with none or a stump but if long it is not carried over the back but in line with the spine or a little above it is not curled like a spitz.

Now that goes to show, posted about the same time as JG - can only say I have not seen it and it does look very odd.

I have seen them with sickle and Spitz tails too. I think as with the dobes and others you can get very varied tail carriage.

Don't talk about Dobes, I think they really can be laughable, the natural tail really is strange, talk about pin it on a donkey.

They just look so mongrelly, where the Boxers aren't so bad, though moving seem houndlike, and the Rotties by and large have labrador type tails

yes they do go over the backs, they can corkscrew like a sammies, look like a teapot handle, some can hang on the floor or so short they look like a cockers docked tail, my youngster on the move the tip of her tail touchs her back but standing hangs a little like a gsds and touches the floor but a good tail carriage is not to bad to look at as it is quite hairy with good plumage and ties in quite well with the dog
I do think that Dobes look as if they have borrowed someone else's tail. It doesn't fit with the body at all it is so flimsy lol

Breed standard says not curled over back in cardigan corgi, pembroke im more used to see no tail but rear structure is similar so wouldn't expect to see a tight curl like the charm on a show quality dog. The cardigans normally dont go very high in tail carriage the base section never really reaching vertical always a nice lose arc. So that charm in my eyes is closer to a vallhund than a corgi but the front chest and head still dont suit. I see there is a bespoke service why not ask them to have a bash at a vallhund im sure if you could get others in the breed interested it wouldnt be very costly.

Looked into that but it's £450 per full body charm and £375 for a head. They also don't remake it for retail . So at that price I'd rather pretend the corgi is a vall lol
do not look like a corgi to me more like a shib
do not look like a corgi to me more like a shiba inu would not want to show that in a corgi class and tail is totally wrong

On that last picture the legs are soo short!!!

And the 'correct' tail looks very impractical - such a low dog with a long, low tail could easily get it trodden on when herding cattle. In this case I'd have thought the spitz-type tail is much more sensible.
do not forget when they herded and drove cattle they had no tail that is the reason the were docked and the dog is standing in grass the cardigan and pembroke both when moving the tail is up and down hitting the floor when standing that photo the tail is held too high for standing still
I can understand why Pembroke Corgis are a lot less popular - as an adult my first pedigree dog was a Corgi and she was a lot heavier and shorter legged than the ones I remember from my childhood, which were owned by relatives. Looking at photos in the recent Dog World feature, they now look shorter legged than ever, and the foxy heads I loved have disappeared.
I do recall seeing undocked Pembrokes with spitz-like tails and I thought they looked better then the heavy low set tails seen now

All the ones I have seen have Spitz tails.
I think if the breed go with the low tail there will be confusion with the Cardigan, the distinction for the average person will be lost.
The breed certainly need to get leg length back in my humble opinion.
last weekend it was the 75th welsh corgi league anniversary pems only with 240 dogs from all over europe entered, and pem lovers from all over the world, i was there and not one dog had a spitz tail

i was there and not one dog had a spitz tail I am glad to hear it as the spitz tail on a Corgi look very odd and even though it may happen on occasion I hope that breeders do not encourage it. Not sure I like the very short leg either but may be it is a longer coat rather than a shorter leg either way it does not look right.

My Local long time pem breeder has her youngsters with Spitz tails.
