Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bleeding after weaning?
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 13.04.13 13:09 UTC
My girl has just weaned her pups completely - they are 7 weeks old tomorrow (all going to super homes)   She has just started bleeding again - she's perfectly bright and lively in herself,  and bled for probably less than 5 days after whelpng.   Vet checked fine afterwards.      It could , I suppose be a subinvolution of the placental sites, but I don't know why it's started out of the blue.     Just wondering if anyone else has had this?

It could be a hormonal change from stopping feeding the pups.

Provided there is no smell there shouldn't be a problem

Agree, unless the amount is large then she needs to see a vet.

No, just normal bood, not a lot, no smell but definitely there.    The boys think they're luck's in!    I'm not particularly worried, but it's a pattern I haven't had before.

Our pups are 8 weeks old and Mum stopped bleeding altogether after 3 weeks which was a lot quicker than her previous litter, her loss was much lighter too. She lost some blood at 5 weeks and has now stopped ......pups were later weaning at 4 weeks.

If she starts again I'll take her to the vet for a check over.
